Those are some sexy looking engines! Its about time LS based motors made it to the boating world. Nice work!

Ilmor has some smaller HP motors that might be a good fit for the 292 with some tweaking....just saying if the changing of the bobtail and the tweaks are minor enough to switch from a tow perspective to performance boating might be some more market for ILMOR in the 29-33 segment

I saw and more importantly "heard" this boat.....it screams upon start up, way louder than 525's.

Neat boat, nice paint/interior but 339K "boat show special price" and a list msrp that was much higher.
340K for a 35 ft/81 mph boat is a lot of money.....

Curious as to the all-around subjectives, as everyone in the boat had previous experiences with other packages. Mid-range impressive, and without 500 extra pounds in the arse.

How was the overall handling by comparison? Did this setup help out with any of the porpoising at lower speeds?

This is an impressive boat to test them in, since direct comparisons will be available soon apples-to-apples.

Apples versus Oranges

Always seems to be an issue here on OSO and other boating forums how some are fixated on comparing "apples to oranges". These Ilmor 570" are 454 cubic inch engines putting out a real 570HP in a lighter more compact package with the Indy drive which is a great deal stronger than a Merc Bravo XR. The Merc 565 is a 540 cubic inch engine putting out an easy 650 HP real world so the comparison of the two is really a poor choice in my opinion. I'd really like to also see an independant test of the two engines as to gallons per hour used at lets say 3500, 4000rpm, 5000rpms, etc. to see how much more efficient the ILmors are over a big block. With gas now creeping up again to over $5 a gallon those numbers may be a consideration. JMO

I think its pretty much apples to apples? yea, less cid but also less weight, so we will call that a draw, I would bet that the 565 is more like 600-625 crank power, If the Ilmor is not making 600+ I would be surprised. They know that this engine will be directly compared to a 565 and they already said pricing would be near the same. If the brought knife to a gun fight then shame on them. They had a year to get the package figured out. Also its not packaged with a Indy drive It seems they are going Imco or Teague drives. I see your point though in smaller boats the weight might really make a difference, but also in some boats the extra cid might be important, but I think in the vast majority of applications its a good comparison., Like the 725 indy package vs. the 700 nxt package.

Sounds awesome, I would like to see the higher HP versions they are working on. OH and hey Raylar, how is that crow?
