sinks
Did not think that i would get this much action on this post, but thanks to everyone who replied. To the person who said he uses his sink for a catch all that is just what i do with mine, keys sunglasses huggies and whatever else will fit in there. Will try to think of something i could do with the space if i removed the sink. Might take the sink out square off the hole and fit a nice recessed container in it that will hold more junk like sunglasses for passengers that come on board without them, the first thing they say is why do i need sunglasses and i just say you will find out when we start rolling down the river.

I use the fresh water tank for the transom shower. The sink is just a pain in the ass because the kids mess with it, then I turn the pump on and it starts dumping water or spraying everywhere. I'd rather have the storage space or something else.

Y'all are deducting the interest paid on boat loans against your income correct? Cash buyers are SOL?

Vette is right. Didn't know about the storage but the interest on the loan can be deducted just like a house if the boat qualifies. Yes cash buyers are sol
|
I used to own a boat (non-performance) with a sink. Never overnighted on it, but still used the sink all the time.
Like others have said, it's nice to have when you boat in salt water - rinsing the salt off your sunglasses, your face, etc. |

my sunsation had a sink. I peed in it a few times while too drunk or too lazy to walk down the docks in the middle of the night. That's about all it's good for. Just make sure it drains out of the hull and not into the bilge like most coolers do.

let me know if you find a nice recessed square container like that, I want the sink gone and replaced with something usable |
Do you guys have any issues with the water in the holding tank getting stinky? I owned a camper and if the water was not filtered it would get real stinky.
|
Last 2 boats had one in the head and in the galley area. Bathroom one got used, the galley one was always full of suntan lotion and cheap sunglasses. Worked well for the mess that the lotion would make no matter how hard you try to police it, and it was always funny when you tell the new guy to check out the rooster tail and watch the glasses fly off thier head.
I like one in a head but rather have a big 50-80 qt built in cooler like some builders do now. The cooler in the dash of the Sonic was still one of the best things I liked about it. |

As far as smell an keeping bacteria away treat it like a pool. On my supply boat our freshwater tanks stay chlorinated. Not highly but enough to keep the water good. We don't drink it or cook with it. Just showers. But a minimal amount of bleach will do well. Don't have a mix number trial and error till you get it right. This should only be an issue if you store the water for extended periods of time not for just a weekend worth.

Instead of bleach have you considered granulated chlorine? I have some from the hot tub (not bromine) and was curious about throwing 1 teaspoon in now and then.

Sinks
(ICDEDPLL) If i go the route of taking the sink out and put something else in there i will have something made to fit the hole i cut out. It will be something nice with some kind of lining in it to prevent damage to what ever i put in there. Wood would be the easiest to work with but it would have to be a nice job. Not even sure how much room i have to work with, i would have to go to where the boat is stored and check it out.
|
^^^ I`ve been looking for just a nice stainless shallow drop in piece but haven`t found anything..
|
I have 2 sinks. the head one does not get used to much ad the head is small room anyway so when you are done, your just tryign to get out of there. but it does sometimes get used.
The Gally gets used all the time, brushing teeth, washing dishes, washing hands, water for cooking, rinsing crap off, what ever. Have yet to try my hot water for some reason. I also wright the interest paid as a second home, Cook surface, Toilet, and sleeping quarters.... and I can easily say I spend 2 weeks on the boat is need be. This boat the V birth is a little firmer foam then my 252. So I just recentle purchases a 4 inch memory foam topper, and about to start trimming it for the V. anyone have and helpfull hints for trimming it? I was thinking electric turkey trimming knife, as my dad used to cut foam for tool boxes out with one and it worked great on foam. |

One when you step in the cuddy across from the head and one in the head that can be used as a shower in the head. But no hot water.

How about this one! I dont use the faucet but I do use the sink, it holds the package of "Wet Wipes" LOL. I love those travel packs, they are so handy!! I take poor mans bath with them.
Not to open another can of worms, BUT, the built-in cooler on my boat is nice but you cant keep ice in the darn thing. I cant believe they didnt insulate it! I thought about getting underneath and try to insulate it somehow. |
I don't have a cooler - I have a small fridge. We used to keep all the perishables in the fridge and everthing else that you want to keep cool in the cooler stuffed under the passenger bolster.
Could hold enough food and fuel for 4 days of port hopping. |
Ours has both a sink in the cockpit and mid cabin. I just removed the faucet from the cockpit sink as we NEVER use it, but the sink is a great "catch all".
Next year I plan to install a small 3-5 gal poly tank and a electric pump to feed the faucet in the mid cabin. right now it has a soft bag you fill. http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/...IMG_0189-1.jpg http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/.../IMG_27361.jpg http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/...02/mid-1-1.jpg |

Yup, must have Head (in Canada it must be permanent), galley and sleeping berth to qualify as second residence or more important...in Canada it has to be a "bonifide residence" to :party-smiley-020:consume alcohol once moored.
I also read that you must spend atleast 14 night on boat to qualify. I will be doing that. |

You guys have me looking into this tax thing!! Im having trouble finding a good definition for "galley" though. The cuddy in my 29' fountain has a sink and faucet, Potta-potty, but GALLEY? Is my cuddy a galley?. I have a really small microwave I can set in there!? Does that count?! Seriously?!

Yeap sleeping berth, head (portapotty), and galley (portable propane stove). Started taking the deduction back in 1996 on my first boat, Baja 260 but I had a one burner electric stove in it.
|
I never has a sink until I had my Mistress, so nice to have for brushing teeth, I overnite every weekend in it all weekend, so washing and teeth brushing are nice... especially after wrenching in the middle of the lake!!!
The cooler insde actually works better then I though, I use that for sandwiches at the sandbar, keeps a bag of ice almost all weekend, kind of surprised for a 28 year old cooler.... |

Here ya go. I put a 9 gal tank in the captains locker behind the sink. I also used a wash down pump for the sink and added a wash down hose fitting on the transom. The hose is great to rinse the boat and we use it as a shower if were in salt water.

Are most of these sinks faucets pump style or electric pump?
|
I assume we were talking electric. Mine is at least, the pump runs the sink and the transom shower. The transom shower is very welcome for the hand washing, rinsing things down, etc. The sink... not so much.
|
Mine were pump. I removed one as we NEVER use it. The other is still there with NO water supply at the moment. I plan to isntall a 3-5 gal poly tank and an electric pump to feed the new faucet Ill install.
