Jason Johnson's story got me thinking (risky stuff, I know) ...
Viewed from afar, the grass seems a whole greener in UIM Class 1. But when you talk to people who are in it and have been so for a long time, you learn that, much as you wish otherwise, it's not.
They have politics. They have power struggles. They have battles over technical rule changes. They have checkbook racing.
About the only issue we have in domestic offshore racing that they don't? A gazillion classes that make no sense to anyone other than the racers who compete in them.
I take no satisfaction in the struggles of UIM Class 1. In fact, I wish it presented a complete and thriving model for offshore racing worldwide. Sadly, it does not. No one has it completely figured out. No one. But like the rest of you, I'm hopeful
