Tim, can't say on the heat thing since the problem started and ended within a few weeks when the temps were in the 70's-80.

You should be able to find in the wiring diagram a fuel pump relay located in the engine compartment. You should be able to tell from there if the pump is running (getting power) to determine if the pump is running or not.
