I hear there's a segment in "Pegged 2" that features the boats that you guys are talking about :drink:

Never had anyone ask me to dial out that blower surge:evilb:

"Blower surge" has almost nothing to do with idle mixture or cam. It has to do with manifold pressure. You can not add more fuel at idle to remove the manifold pressure build up.

Anyone that says that they prefer a boat with this idle surge has either never tried to dock or trailer a boat like this or they are just wanting to make life difficult. It's like the guys that prefer carbs instead of EFI, LOL....

Don't get me wrong I love the sound.

The only way to get rid of this issue with forced induction is with some type of bypass that is active at idle.

This is one of the many reasons the Whipple systems idle like a stock motor. I am sure if it was as easy as adding more fuel at idle then they would have just done that.

I've tuned the surge out of my motors before. With carbed motors, it is tricky, but it can be done. Having HP series carbs helps as you can adjust the air bleeds, as well as the idle mixture.

However, they are usually so lean, you have to feather them once they go in gear, which is what makes it tough around the docks. I'd rather have them fat at idle and surging, than lean with no surge and wanting to die when they go in gear.

With carbs, the surge can also change with atmospheric conditions...since the carbs don't compensate- they are a fixed mixture.

Wanna solve it? Go to a FI setup, like on the Whipples.
