Don't panic until you need too. If the engine guy is one his way sit back, take a deep breath, and just wait till he finds out what is really wrong.

My engine was put together by a very well known guy and right out of the box it popped and sure enough there were to exhaust valves too tight. Easy fix. I think you will be fine.

If you are right, Ill be the happiest MO FO on the east coast You will ALL hear me jumping up and down screaming IT RUNS IT RUNS and then you will all witness the sickness of this tub on the river tomorrow, taking my good old video camera with me Got the thing to make movies on my computer and capture it I sure as hell hope it is a stuck valve and im not in for another month or two of wrenching on this damn thing Jason |
Pull your spark plugs and it won't hurt it to turn it over. Do you have a compression tester? I'm just an impatient person, I would have to test it now. I would suggest to the builder (and I bet he does anyway) to check the cylinders without even starting it since you know it is going to pop.
|
BUY A LEAK DOWN TESTER!!!...Then YOU can give facts supported by the data to the engine builder...just because the engine runs,,,doesn't mean it's right....don't let people blow smoke up your ass!!...if 1 hole is leaking down 50 form the exhaust valve it will run ok...till ya smoke a exhaust valve...then it will be your fault or some ****! a compression test tells you there is a problem...not where...unless you use heavy oil w/it, that will point to the rings...also remove ALL the plugs on a compression test!
O,,,like i said data...don't build a billybob tester so you have to listen for air leaks...are real one will have 2 gauges, then calculate %'s... ever hear of CYA and not see ya....cover your ass! |
Hey Jay, you said the other engine was smoking out the breather like crazy. What is that all about? Is it real bad blow-by?
|
Nah I think it is all the assembly stuff and what not.
That engine never ever fired up until last night and man did it sound healthy as $hit!!! cam lumping away in there at 2000 RPM's with 50 PSI of oil psi im sure you all heard it across the country last night. Was exciting to hear it I climbed down to see if water was exiting through the exhaust as it should and yeah she was blowing it all over the driveway. the breather was having smoke come out of it yes, I am thinking it is all the oil, assembly lube, and some paint getting hot on the side of the block, gasket material getting hot and seating itself in. I see engines smoke after their first time firing up and I have no problem with it now if I run it for an hour or two hours and it is still smoking out of the breather, then we have a problem but right off the bat, nah im not worried I always carry extra oil, parts, plugs, wires, rags, tools, you name it even a coat hanger and a set of jumper cables if I have to sort of weld somthing out on the water (old 4x4 trail blazing trick) 3 pairs of sun glasses, coat hanger and jumper cables to weld stuff and some sand paper or cookie pad or somehting Never can be too prepared Jason |
The suspense is killing me! This saga is better than a damn movie. Will it run......is it the valves or the cam? Plus I'm learning all about this stuff while poor Jay goes through the pain.
Very entertaining stuff. You gotta keep us posted after your 2 o'clock meeting with the engine builder. Black cloud is moving away from you buddy. |
thats right RickerTX
its moving away from Jay and over to me:D :D don't forget to call me Jay Russ |
