Flying on the water. 40 + knots on a sailboat. Please don't ban me for this but these guys are bad a##.

works good in flat water. They would need to elevate significantly for 3 meter seas they normally race in.

Video was shot in San Francisco Bay where the 2013 defense will take place, hopefully the conditions for the races will be such that they can fly the boats to make for some very exciting racing. 3 meter seas would be very exciting too.

In 1987 Dennis Connor received a surprise challenge from New Zealand shortly after winning the cup back from Australia. In looking at the rule book for some kind of advantage he found that the rules said nothing about cats not being allowed.

So he built a winged cat and won the cup back with no problem. The cats have evolved to what we have today with the foil, winged, cats.

I still prefer the old school 12 meters and big mono hulls, but these cats are awesome.
