Borrowed an electric grinder and bit from Tinkerboater. Thanks a lot Steve!!!!!
I'll post when I've got it done and on the boat. Till then, don't call, don't email, don't PM, don't IM, etc.... I'M BUSY!!!!!!!!!! :D |
If you are really using a grinding wheel, you'll need a special one for aluminum. The regular steel wheels will quickly load up. Of course you're not doing much so it might not matter...
|
Spray WD-40 on the bit while its cutting, it wont load up.
|
I would double check before I started drilling. I would guess the fitting on the drive will work like a one way valve letting water in when the drive cools off.
You may be better off taking out the valve and plugging the hole. |
RickR, I'm grinding on the INNER plate, not the outer. So, no water issues or leaks of any kind. I understand the one way valve on the drive/bell housing. No sweat!! But thanks for the concern.:)

Like formula 31 said just spray WD-40 on what you are grinding (about every 10 seconds of grinding) and it won't load up as fast with aluminum. Hell MIKE if you had told me you just needed a hole I have bits all the way up to 6 inches. And the drill to turn it.
3/4 inch hole in 1/2 inch aluminum takes about 1 minute. |
Steve, I'm done grinding. Need help putting it on the boat.
|
I will plan on stoping over tomarrow after work.
|
Thanks Steve. I should be home around 4:00 or so.
