If I recall correctly from Flight school, hot starts are due to excessive EGT's caused by excessive fuel in the combustion section vs. engine RPM's.....easily avoided if guages are monitored and settings are correct before startup
The results are not pretty if not caught it time - ususally the same end result as a big piston detonating excessively or grenading - it's going to a specialized company to repair or replace the power plant. Both Pistons and the turbines have their positives and negatives and I have yet to see anything that liked to injest saltwater.
As far as WOT for sustained periods - turbines anyday IMO.
