Stain on vinyl
I got a finger print on my new cf vinyl during the Miami Run in Feb. and I cannot get it out. I don't know what it is but i have done everything I know of and nothing seems to work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If magic eraser does not take it out. You can try Acetone. You just have to be careful. Get a small area of a towel wet and dab at the stain.
|
acetone is scarey, you get about one wipe before it eats it. I have cleaned some nasty stained white vinyl this way and had good results...
use one of those sponges with the green scrubbey scotch bright stuff.. 1. pour laquer thinner on a damp scrubber sponge and scrub 2 next use soft scrub with the scrubber sponge 3. rinse well and then wipe down with 303 |
use beer!!!:party-smiley-004:

Wesley's Bleach White (white wall clear) has gotten some nasty stuff out for me in the past. At least you have some ideas now.
|
Thanks guys. I have tried bleach white, soft scrub, magic eraser and simple green with no luck. I was told by a friend to use vinagar and water. I do have a sample of the vinyl I can try things on before I screw up the real thing.

If the magic eraser or Soft scub doesn't touch it I don't know what will... |

I tried that once after some dumb c#*%t fell in my boat walking across the boats to the bar in black heels, brand new Sunsation. Acetone melts vinyl. Not a good choice...

Try WD-40 then wipe clean with a cloth soaked with dish soap and water on it or try Spray Nine and once again wipe clean with a damp cloth soaked with dish soap and water.
|
roll off and a magic eraser. If that cannot get it off, it is not meant to be cleaned.

The sun will get it eventually.
Several years ago we partied all night and a friend spilled red wine all over my seats and it never got cleaned up for a couple days - I couldn't get it out to save my life with ANYTHING. Couple weekends later I looked up and it was gone..... |
Try a steamer....cheap little portable unit from Wally world.
As you steam it, you will notice it becomes very pliable. Whipe with a clean, dry white cloth....diaper....sock...towel... This opens the vinyl and the heat attracts the dirt to the top..... |

My sister-in-law sat in my Talon with a new, unwashed, red swimsuit. Had a major red stain on my white rear seat and nothing would get it out. Couple days in direct sun and all was gone. |

With most of these options, make sure it's not applied anywhere near the stitching/thread. It will eat hem up.
I always did the bleach white with a soft bristled brush and scrubbed in a circle. I always followed up with soapy water and vinyl protectant. Acetone is def the last resort. Good luck. |

Acetone will eat the vinyl if you let it sit on it. If you dab it like I said it may get the stain out. We use to do that at a marina when nothing else worked. Treat with a protectant after. I have done it on my own boats as well. Have never melted the vinyl.

Most vinyl suppliers with suggest mild soap and water first, then rubbing alcohol, and lighter fluid as the strongest cleaner. Even a quick swipe of acetone is guaranteed to remove whatever stain guard the vinyl is treated with. Direct sunlight is another great option before you damage the vinyl with too much scrubbing.

Zep vinyl cleaner has gotten a ton of red stains out of my white vinyl. It's hard to find but works great. Dam kids had bug spray on one night and had red stuff on their hands, I don't think they were happy until they touched every dam seat in the boat. It kind of sizzles when you spray it on, you can see the red come to the top of the foam. Last stuff I got, I had to buy a case off eBay.

The sun light idea is funny as I kept a towel over it for the rest of the weekend down there as I was afraid the sun would set the stain.
Thanks |
Did you try a Swipe Mike?

I use Goof Off http://www.homedepot.com/p/Goof-Off-...G654/100671841 for the really stubborn stains/scuffs that won't come off with the Simple Green or Magic Eraser ect... But, the same as all other strong chemical cleaners, don't use much of it and don't leave it on the vinyl, just put a small amt. on a small white micro-cloth and wipe the stain out. Immediately follow-up with some type of vinyl protectant to re-moisturize and condition your vinyl so it doesn't dry-out and crack. I use Meguiar's. If there is any residual stain left, like everyone else said... the SUN will finish it off. Good Luck!

I have never tried it, but I have been told shaving cream will help fade a stain in direct sunlight. As far as soft scrub...wouldnt be my first choice as the abrasive can dull the naugahide. Alcohol would be my first choice as a solvent...I know hair spray can take out ink stains in jeans and just may be what is in the shaving cream. I have taken logos off of snowmobile seats with acetone but that is scary to work with!

Looks like if all these fail you need to change the cause to a few hookers and a wild night of partying!:party-smiley-004: damage on the boat always seemed to be more acceptable when there is a good story behind it! Unfortunately it seems like everyone has one of these damn stories about the idiots crossing the back and damaging the boat.
Good luck and don't forget to post your results. I have a few I need to try to get out as well. |
Google 'mineral spirits to clean vinyl'. My upholstery guy told me about using it.

We have real good results using vinyl from Spradling International with Permaguard Stain coating. Every customer that I wright their name in ball point pen on the old vinyl and a sample of the new with Permaguard is sold immediately on the stuff when I wipe it clean with alcohol. Watch the video:

I've had luck using white gas (Coleman Fuel)

The sun is the way to go, I had a black hat that got wet and left a black mark in the white vinyl. I tried every chemical I know of nothing worked. A week in the sun it was gone. Another friend had black party streamers on his boat and they got wet and left black marks all over his interior I told him to let the sun get it out. They disappered within a week. Good Luck
