185 powerplay value?

What is a 1991 powerplay xlt-185 worth with bottom paint? ive got a line on one that needs a motor but seems solid otherwise.

Whats it worth without motor and what would it be worth with a new gm marine crate motor?

spazboz 04-21-2013 12:18 PM

I gave a grand for mine with a cracked block. (Not winterized properly) Clean, with trailer and no bottom paint. Needed some interior work.
I just bought another one for about the same that doesn't have an engine or drive, but has fresh upholstery.

That's what I though this one has new manifolds fuel pump bellows gimbal bearing so I'm prolly willing to pay 1500-2000 for it. He's asking 2700. How well are they built? Just worried about rot I already have one glass project and do not want another. I figure it worth 7k running with a new Gm marine small block crate motor.

" I figure it worth 7k running with a new Gm marine small block crate motor."

I'd guess $2500 or so for a nice running one, $1000 for one that doesn't run...and keep in mind while you might have 7k in it and while PQ built a nice boat I'd really doubt it would ever sell for $7k.

I don't know about that man I once sold a switzercraft 22 with no deck in it no interior no out drive shot steering arm and a running 350 mag for 2k on a modified Boston whaler trailer lol

if I could buy one for $2500 I would in a second. know where one is?

If I had to sell the one in my avatar, I would ask 6500 and hope for anything between 5500 and that. Living in West Michigan (Just over a Mile from the old PQ building) the value may be a little more here, but to the right buyer, I think that would be a fair price for the two of us. There are owners out there asking more, but they don't seem to be moving real fast. My guess is, they're like me. If you want to pay for it, I'll sell. Otherwise I'm perfectly happy keeping it!

After the restore I just did on mine and adding up the all the receipts Ive put about 11k into it. But 6500 was into the 406sbc 500hp I got built. I paid 3500 for it 3 years ago in a condition of 7/10 and had a 383sbc that ran 70. Now it has new floor, upholstery, carpet, 406sbc , gauges, alpha SS($2k alone), etc. Has a few bumps and scratches, but over all in great condition and wont sell it anytime soon... I know Ill never get back what I put into it... but to me it beats buying a 30k-40k new crownline or whatever... These boats have a classic look to them and they do turns heads. Fun as hell to drive! They do hold there value when they are in stock mint condition they go for around 5500-6500. Now... when you have one like mine, tdaddy185xlt's , woogie's, and others off speedwake.com your talking 7500 and over imho. Below is a great thread on the xlt's and still active today, read it. Great info on these boats.

There not a whole lot out there right now for sell... best one ive seen is this one.

http://charlotte.craigslist.org/boa/3742059550.html

Sucker is clean and worth the 6-6500k imho... There was an 89' that just sold not too long ago that had the best color scheme in my opinion and was pretty mint. Not sure what it went for though.

chrisf695 04-21-2013 08:21 PM

LOL the windshield is actually worth more then the hull... its the euro style windshield thats pretty rare... looks better then the square windshield look to me.

Just popped up on local CL tonight. I think it was for sale last fall also. I know nothing about this one.

Well boys those prices are all great. Back in 2001 I paid $8900 and that was a steal for a unmolested 160hr xlt. For a pristine mint xlt ur gonna have to drop 10-12k and they are out there. I do see the prices going down cause Ofcourse the boats are getting older and older boats people don't take care of. Price for mine? Priceless. You know What wipes a smile off a guys face in a $100,000 new boat....me pulling ahead of him in a 24 yr old classic.

I would definitely look at the stringers in them.My nephew looked at quite a few up there in Michigan and all of them had bad stringers.Seems if they were not and kept out of the weather the stringers went to hell.Probably also they sat with water in their bilges.

A couple grand is still a good deal but plan on glasswork .
