Mid Ocean- The movie. Why hasnt it been done?

All the reviews I see on this book extol it a being a very good book. Has there been any talk about making it into a movie?

Look how good the last Miami drug movie did. But I agree even though I have not read the book yet. A good Robert and Mickey movie would be good too.

I read the book, Todd gave me a copy. I would definitely go see the movie. I don't think it gained enough traction to make a movie.

I really like the hot imaginary girls that he creates profiles for on Facebook and sends everyone in the offshore world a friend request.

If you don't know her, why would you get a friend request??? LMAO

Thanks for the kind words Mike and you're right, it's an expensive film to make with an estimated 42 M budget. "Mid Ocean" was optioned by a German funding group and then re-optioned as a speculative TV series called "3 Mile Limit." I wrote the script and a 13 episode treatment which is with Fox 21/ FX at present.

The compelling issue boils down to cost. When there were 4 major networks to divide the viewing public - and the advertising dollar - it made sense to explore large budgets. Today we are looking at hundreds of channels and even more on the internet - all doing one thing - splitting the market share. With shows like "Duck Dynasty," "Keeping up with the Kardashians" and "Here Comes Honey Boo-boo" producers have learned that they can draw huge rating numbers without spending a lot of money. The end result, as we all know, is a dumbed down entertainment platform that caters to the least of us. And, the dramatic television that does make it to air is filled with heavy CGI after effects.

Back to the movie issue - The public can't wrap their head around the why, how or what we do. It's why offshore never made it big in the sports TV markets. Michael Mann spent over 20 M to compile just the offshore footage for the film version of Miami Vice - most of which ended up on the cutting room floor when the package hit theaters. We didn't see any of the "race" footage until the DVD release.

And what about us? We are boat racers, but how many of us went to go see "Miss Madison?" How many of us went to go support our brothers in Unlimited Hydroplane racing? I think you guys know the answer. Offshore is a microcosm. It is what it is.

Thanks for the questions and if you do decide to read the book, I hope you enjoy it.

All the best.

Not sure if you can post the link to the trailer but that got me going right off the bat making me want to read the book w/ the hopes a movie would follow.

Todd, being as you took the time to answer all the positive questions. Why did you not answer the ones about the fake profiles of porn girls and such to spam everyone. I would love to hear your reasoning for that one.
Secondly, I also find it ironic that you say something about Duck dynasty, it must be troubling for you to see a family that has made millions by hard work and a faithful devotion to religion. I guess that old rumor of doing things the right way and reaping the rewards still eludes you huh?

Rob,

I have a hard enough time keeping up with one profile on FB. I can assure you that your assumptions that I have more than one are completely false. I have yet to understand what your personal issue is with me - we've never met - although I'm sure it has something to do with our verbal political battles in the Politics Forum. I say get over it. Anger is a carcinogen.

Have a nice day.
