Borescopes ?

I'd like to get a scope for casual use on boat, car, house etc. Anyone have any recommendations ? There are a couple for sale locally that were designed for medical use that seem pretty high end but I don't know how suitable they'd be for mechanical stuff. Thanks

The ones we use are like $25k but I found these in the MSC catalog

if you're just looking for something that sees occasional use, Harbor Freight makes a really cheap one. http://www.harborfreight.com/digital...era-67979.html

Yeah, I see now that the can run well into the thousands. Want to keep it around $500 or less for the limited home use I'll get out of it. Lots of choices and options and I don't know anything about them. Thanks

I sell one buy Autel with a 5mm wand and a 2 1/2 screen. AULMV208-5.5 for $214. The HF. one has a 8mm 0r 10 mm wand and is hard to use .

I bought this camera from harbor freight for $69 on sale. It does a good job for the price. It's not the best out there for sure, but it has come in handy a few times for me already.

i have the snapon one,,dont think you want to spend a grand tho..look at home depot,,they have one ..its by the power tool section..

The one from harbor freight is cheap as heii, and has a removable wireless color screen with a dim-able light by the camera lens. I use mine to find that pesky nut that fell into the intake.....

Saw one at Wal*Mart tonight in the Auto section when I was buying Mobil1. Do not quote me on price, but $79 bucks maybe? I just glanced at it.

I have one from Home Depot and am pleased with it for the price. If I used it on a daily basis, I would upgrade...

A friend of mine has tried a couple and says the best one he has used is the Snap-on. He said that it has a great picture that come in clear and bright, bright being the key word in dark areas. He said that the screen picture on the other ones in the dark was poor. I thought he said it was around $600.00 but well worth it with a lifetime guarantee.

Just be aware of the diameter of the scope cable, be sure to get one small enough diameter to fit into the spark plug hole. I got one really inexpensively and it is "just this much" too big. Next size down diameter wise 3 X price.

Rigid CA-300 about $450, that is what we use at my work and they work great I will be getting one for home also.

sparky24 04-26-2013 09:29 AM

Snap on makes a few good ones around 400 bucks I think they have one that can actually send pictures wirelessly also save photos and has a bright light on the end which is important btw they have a one year only warranty on electronics

commandersander 04-26-2013 04:04 PM

+1 on warranty.....snap on is not the snap on I started wasting tens of thousands of bucks on 30 yrs ago...:angry-smiley-038:

Thanks for the advice.

Just looked into some of the models mentioned. The Ridgid has some decent features including the ability to capture and store pics and video, but it has a 17mm head which looks huge in the video. 1yr warranty and a was $450ish. The $375 Snap on looks pretty basic has a 8mm head and a slight improvement in resolution with a 2yr warranty. The Harbor Freight unit with the fixed head is under $100 and actually gets pretty decent reviews. It has the best resolution and a 90day warranty that you can extend. They don't list the head size but it was noted it will not fit into a 14mm plug hole. It was also reported that it couldn't be used to view closer than 1in. because of the focus. I'm worried about that 1 inch issue. What size is the plug hole on a big block?
