Can a Bravo be shortend?

Was wondering if anybody ever cut and rewelded one? From looking at the outside looks like the upper could be cut. Can it be done? Would the weld break? Since shorties are so expensive figure I would ask. I have never been inside one to know. I know the inside drive shaft would have to be shortened.

I seem to remember a thread on here that someone shortened an alpha, If that one worked why not?

Before Imco started casting their shorty's they where shortening Bravos, There is a limit how far, About 2" if IIRC....

you can find shorties for 1500-3000 depending on brand and age..
Subtract what you get for selling your lower and its not that expensive...
Unless you have a full fabrication shop at your disposal and are an excellent
welder the cost would not be any cheaper to do it yourself ..

If you have an XR lower, you can just buy the case and vertical shaft from IMCO and use your internals. If I remember correctly, the case and shaft are in the just less 2K neighborhood.

No I don't.

If you have access to a shop, I don't see why not. I consider myself competent machinist and I wouldn't be afraid to shorten one, even though I have never been in one. Look at an exploded view from an online parts house to get an idea what is inside .

There was a guy that did it not too long ago. Griswald maybe? I think it was a guy with a Fountain in Texas.

I guess it wasn't the whole drive, a cav plate mod:
