List of all Mercruiser Sterndrive Models/years

Hi everyone, I am selling my Mercruiser alpha 3.7 stern drive and have someone interested. I want to make sure it will fit his 1986 boat. For a long time ive been wondering what are all the models of stern drives produced up until alpha gen 2. My old boat I always referred to it as pre alpha but I know it had an actual name which I believe was merc one? Thanks for the help

you should have a alpha one,,the gear ratio is what the guy really needs to know and i believe depending on the hp of your engine was it shouls be like a 1.83 or a 1.91 ratio..the pre alpha units wer e call the mr and r models, these were in the early and late 70's into the early 80's then they did a little redesign and called it a alpha one until i believe 91 then they came out with the gen 2 in 92 which wont fit because the trim rams are longer and it has a drive fluid bottle inside the boat to maintain the drive fluid level.

Most of your alpha questions can be found in the first two links upon opening this link below,
http://forums.iboats.com/mercruiser-...on-329915.html

The whole link above is full of info, but you may need to join 4shared.com in order to be able to download the two links you'll want to read, but it will be worth the extra effort.
