I can't get over how far that runabout is run up on the houseboat, in what I assume is a no-wake zone.

First I will say this is very sad because it just should not have happened. Duck Creek is not a no wake zone during the daytime for boats under 30 feet and 8.5' wide (except on July 4th) and there is a 30 mph speed limit. It is a no wake zone for larger boats all the time and at night for all boats from May 1 or so until Oct. 1. This dock does stick out into the main part of the cove very far so you really cannot stay 150 feet from it and stay to the right of the center line markers but that is a different matter just with this dock. Obviously they did not slow down as they approached the dock if they were heading to the dock. I am sure that lawyers will get involved and we will never know what really happened.

Very sad deal prayers go up for the familes.

OLDRAT 05-16-2013 09:18 AM

Prayers for all families involved. A very sad situation and I hope there are no more tragedies this season.

Cherish the times with your children, I know first hand what
they are going through...it changes everything.

Be safe and look out for others this season.

When are we going to learn about alcohol and boating and YOUNG PEOPLE without the wisdom to not get in a boat where the driver is drinking! It is time to get tough on boating and booze as was done for cars. Zero tolerance. We have that in Lake Conroe near Houston with excellent results. You MUST get an alcohol test if the police stop you and ask you to do it. There is no refusal. Local statistics have proven this strategy works.
