Hi OSO Friends...i have put my Aeromarine IX on sale but noone has taken the hull. I have bought a scarab sport for coming back on the water last week, i should have her in the water next month, since in Italy the weather is a Sh..t...
I am in this situation where i still have the dry martini hull, In your opinion, since it will be a total restoration...should i go for an original old school Offshore running Cig (in the boat there still are all the original pieces from where to start a rebuild) or should i go for a CC style resto ? Maybe putting also a bracket for 3 eggbeaters ?

What do you think ?
Try to be in my situation and give me some kind of advice, i am going nuts looking at the boat...

If you look under the Cigarette thread you can find my conversion of a 35' Cig into a 28' center console. It is about four pages back in the threads. Let me know if I can help. Bob N.

I'd turn that thing into a CC with a small cuddy up front. Seems like it'd be a lot less work, a fun project and could be an awesome user friendly boat when done.

NOOOO....Don't cut it! Restore it to its former self and put in a mild pair of big blocks and enjoy.....You can find older center consoles a dime a dozen but cant find nice classics like that any more.

That's the point....I'm sure that it will be a great boat, 9.3 beam and plenty of space...But It's the 9yh 36 made by Cigarette, Don Aronow Era....

If you want a fishing boat or want a ton of people on the boat build a cc. If you want a nice boat to drive and Lethe look go then restore the cig. My speed boat is done getting a new blower setup so we took our offshore fishing cc out this weekend for lake bash and the whole time I was wishing I was in the velocity. The cc is great for fishing and I guess it's good for lots of friends, but it made for a long boring ride going from place to place yesterday. We had 9 adults on the cc yesterday and it was heavy and lazy. It wasn't much fun to drive and was more of a water taxi. We did tube behind the cc which we can't do behind the velocity, but that was fun for all of 30 minutes because I got tired of having to pick up drunk people who could not stay on the tube.

I see the new trend is big custom cc's, but I don't get it. I guess you can make them decently fast, but the idea of a cc (I thought) was to allow tons of epode on board. That being the case, you have a 70 mph cc loaded with people and it quickly tuns into a blender as people are being bounced everywhere. In my velocity everyone has a seat and stays in it while under way. My cc has 4 seats and everyone else is standing and holding on the the t-top. All fine until everyone starts drinking and as we are hitting wakes people are thrown around. Just not fun to me.

A 40 foot Mti, fountain, cig, skater etc with great sounding big blocks pulling up to the dock is awesome. A 40 foot yellowfin, deep impact, freeman, fountain etc with 3 or even 4 v-rods on the back although a nice boat just doesn't do it for me as a cruising boat. I'd love one as a fishing boat as I see them all the time in Venice and grand isle, but not impressive when backing in a big cc and it sounds like a group of guys pissing of the back of the boat.

These are only my opinions which I'm sure are different from others. By no means am I putting down the big cc's because I do think they are awesome boats and would love to have one because it would be an awesome boat 80 miles out in the Gulf of Mexico.

I totally agree with you cp5899

I think that the cc market will slowly decrease and the 40 footer seating 5 or 6 will be hotter than ever

A center console is primarily designed for fishing and rigged accordingly. It is not designed for nor would be any fun hauling a bunch of people around. You can not comfortably haul a bunch of people around in a Cigarette 36 or 42 anyway. My 28' cc is for me and one or two friends fishing. I have seating for five, but it's not the quantity, it is the flexibility. All boats are fun, but cc's are for fishing.
