Need 454 gen V block only , In tri state area
I am looking preferably for a bare block only. I need one with a standard bore so that I can machine to my specs. If any one has one re any leads on one in the NY, NJ, CT area please contact me ASAP.
I just had my boat all finished after a 2 year long project and I ran it for 2 hours to find that there is a crack in the block in the lifter valley that is leaking water into the oil. I am so close to being done and now this  I don't think I will have a boat this year :( But I wont give up. Some day I will shake this curse  Paul Home 845 528 8646 cell 914 906 8091 |
Paul, Charlie couldnt help you out ???

Now he dont want to sell it

Cp Performance sells bare blocks, Merlin @ $1700, GM 502 @ $1200. Also maybe try some of the engine builder sites, Cobra, Eickert, etc. My advise would be to buy new.
Sorry to hear about your troubles. |
Thanks Ken , but I had the motor totally custom built by some one you recently belt with and I ended up having a crack in the block right after I got it running in the boat but it didn't have it when they dynoed it . they say its a factory defect  but I still have to hash it out with them in a few days. the budget has ran beyond its limits. I cant afford new. and a new block will have to be machined anyway. I just want to swap the parts into a refinished block and get this head ache over with. The motor has all new custom parts in it and a small blower so I am limited to a 454. Thanks for your help. Maybe one day I will see you at Gullies

I have two guys that were going to make a few phone calls. I should hear back from them late tomorrow. One guy can get a brand new Gen. VI at a good price (so he say's), as a last resort.

Paul ...good luck with your search!

Hotboat, I know your pain, the same guys blew my motors this spring! They did the right thing and rebuilt at their cost, and did a great job.

Thanks ken But I need a standard bore block. I must bore it to .30 over to there specs. this way I get the proper piston to cylinder wall clearance for a blower motor.
I did find one that I am interested in but it is in Grand Rapids MI. Is there anyone closer???????? |

HotBoat,
I am in Port Clinton, OH and will be returning to DC on the 10th. Perhaps we could relay this thing from Grand Rapids to you.... Ken |
hmmmm..
Did anyone call King Marine (914)737-4306.
He may have something or may know where to get one.. Give him a call :D :D |
Yo Hotboat,
Did you get my email. I have what you want if you cant find something locally. Ron |
Paul, how about an update? Did you find anything yet?
|
Paul found a block....
I just talked to Paul, and he ordered a re-conditioned block. He wanted to thank everyone who responded and all who were looking for him. He will be on later tonight to explain, just didn't want to leave everyone hanging..

At last-the search is over.

Thanks everyone that helped me look for a block. I cant thank you all enough. I've been so busy working late at work, all I had time to do was glance at the post at lunch break. sorry I didn't make to many replies. most people seemed to far away. I didn't think it would be such a pain to find a block in my local area. I thought they were a dime a dozen in the marine industry. I did end up getting the block from Ron Sporl Performance in LA. They were really great to deal with and will be sending the block my way ASAP. All his stuff is fresh water and the blocks had only a few hours on them. He has some sort of deal with Merc where he gets a bunch of motors and reconditions them. His add has been in Powerboat Mag since I subscribed and my marina has dealt with them before and had good results with his stuff.
truthfully by the time the block get here and then sent to the machine shop and then rebuilt I don't think it will be done for a month... at least....... ......So much for the 1000 Island Poker Run. That is also our vacation week this year :( Not having the boat there is going to drive me nuts. But I got some great friend that are going to take care of us . Thanks Shane & Paul and if you guys cant cheer me up there is always my friends John Walker & Jim Bean :D So I think I might have the boat finished just in time to winterize it :p If anyone sees a 28' Scarab dodging Ice burgs in the Hudson that's just be test running the boat ;) See you out there in December. :D |
Glad to hear you finally have a new block. Why don't you shoot for having the boat ready for the Superboat races in September. We can run down from Newburgh to NYC. If you need any help let me know.
|
I would love to but that is in the hands of Typhoon Marine. If all goes as planed I should be ready to go. But I was also planning to run the NYC Poker Run. Call me when you get a chance and let me know when you are going to be at Gullies . Take it from me. all work no play gets boring after a while.
|
Glad you got a block from Ron Sproll. I bought some heads from him 2 years ago and he is great to deal with. He is about 60 miles from me. You should have had him do the machine work also. He has a top notch full machine shop with a super clean air-conditioned build room. He builds race motors for some teams and does alot of the big boy's toys around here.
You still should have called me. I would have practically given my block to you. Good luck and get that thing out on the water! Ron |
