Wait until your're 28 and if you still want one, then go from there.

Good advice. I never had any desire for a tatoo until I started dating my current wife at 27. Since then I've loosened up a lot and wouldn't mind getting one but can't really think of anything I want. Boating or something related to the island lifestyle are the only things in my life that I'm confident will stay constant forever. Almost got a Corona bottle but a friend has one and didn't want to copy. Still somewhat considering a 5 blade prop but am not really enthusiastic about it. Only other thing I've really thought about is a jolly roger flag.
Do a search on here, there was a tatoo thread several years ago that had lots of boating related stuff. |

Got my first one at 21, just finished up a 1/2 sleeve on Thursday and I'll be 39 next month.
Not a horrible idea to wait...or, if you want to get something...make it non-specific. Who knows, you might be a sailboater in 10 years, and your fellow sailboaters will hate on you if you have a powerboat tat. For the record...Magic Medicine has a good one... |

bad influence tat is in memory of my good friend Straight Jacket...I got it the day after he died.
The sleeve started as a pirate flag...specifically Blackbeards flag...but faded and washed out badly, so I covered it first with a "Black hole sun," and then filled everything in with stuff I like...namely skulls, flames, and bicycle chainrings (I spend a lot more time on two wheels than I do behind a boat wheel). Also..if you do it...by all means GO TO A GOOD ARTIST. Its worth it. |
Just make sure the ink has nothing metallic in it,you will not ever be able to get an MRI if you ever need one.

No good tattoo artist will copy someone else's tattoo from a photograph you bring them.
Find a photo or a series of photo's of a boat or boats that you want reproduced, and then do some research! There's a renaissance happening in the tattoo world. There are some brilliant artists doing hyper-realistic images on skin. They have long waiting lists, in some cases you could be waiting a year or more for an appointment. But if that's what you want...Go for it! My only advise ...Go BIG or go home! You are in PA? Start by looking up Ron Russo at 570 Tattooing in Wilkes Barre...Go see Paul Acker or Dan Henk at Deep Six in Philly. Do your research! Good luck! |
Go BIG or go Home?? Why not, it's not like they last forever...
