Default chris craft 26 stinger questions

A buddy had me look at a 1986 26' chris craft stinger w/twin 350s and alpha drives both spinning to the starboard. What speed might we expect spinning 17 pitch mirage props? Can alphas turn either directions like the bravos? Any help would be appreciated? I'm a cat guy and really have limited knowledge of old Vee's. Thanks, Doug

27daytona,
This is a link to a thread on the 260.

The alphas can't be reversed like the bravos. They do make a counter rotating alpha drive.

Doug,
Years ago they had a lot of trouble with keeping the stringers in that line of boats. That is what put Chris Craft out of business.. I know of a few people that tried to rebuild them and still had problems..

Stingers had bad stringers.. beware..

Question 26 Stinger / Stringer

Mr. Gadget, I'm Doug's buddy who's looking a buying that 86 Stinger. Shes been a fresh water boat most of her life and only neglected slightly on the outside, I can handle what I see but, if the problems are bigger below that would make things sour for a long time, if you know what I mean. Can you tell me what and where to look? I appreciate all of the help, Thanks you guys.

If you must look at the Stinger-and I don't recommend it....

Look for stress cracks near the keel, loose stringers, stress cracks by the stringers, and unusual gel coat cracks anywhere in the lower hull.

The boats that I have seen and/or heard of failing did so by splitting along the keel. A member of our club had a 39 open like a landing craft all along the forward keel. He was at 30 mph in 2-3 foot seas. Thank God the PFD's washed out of the cabin since the boat was down in less than a minute.

P.S. Last I heard his ins. company said they would not cover any damage to the hull since it was a defect and not a collision.

Default 1984 Singer

oh Guys here goes. I have a 85 26 ft stinger with Counter rotating drives. Completely done over 350 with SS exhaust. Ready for the best part? Tops out at 87 MPH on a nice cool day in a light chop. Boat has race cowling, turns heads where ever I go. Hull is in great shape. It has 23 mirage props turns close to 6500. I think the newer Stingers had the bad hulls.

I have pictures if any one would like to see.
