raystown lake
Hey guys we will be there this weekend , staying at the resort there. If you see a Powerplay come by and say hello. What spots do you guys recommend hanging around?
Thanks |
Raystown is my home water – I have a house there but only live 40 miles away anyways. We’re there almost every weekend in the summer and about half the weekends in the winter. The lake is 32 miles long with 112 miles of shore line (lots of coves) and you will be going out of the Resort which is at the upper end. I launch out of Jamescreek (about the middle of the lake) and head down since the water is clearer at the lower end verses the upper end, especially with all the rain… It all depends what you’re looking for when it comes to a place to hang. There is a Party Cove past the island across from Jamescreek which gets pretty wild at times… There is also Coffee Run which is the cove under the second bridge headed down from the resort, it’s a little quieter. Snyder’s Run and the dam are also nice and on the quiet side plus there are two large coves, one on each side of Seven Points with nice clear water. The cove past Seven Points (8 mile marker) has a large no wake zone and also some cliffs that people jump off of.
I typically launch, take a ride to the dam for a while then head to one of the quieter coves to raft up with the group. There are a couple other members here on Raystown that should chime in. What size/color PP? |
Scag Burner
A 33' with yellow on the back end, purple on sides. In these coves can you walk around in the water? Also is it a sand bottom? Thanks |
There are a few smaller coves along the main lake with sandy bottoms but most are rock. I never beach my boat but sometimes we do anchor up and tie off to shore, keeping several feet of water under the drives. If you’re going to walk around, you should wear shoes. There is one real nice place just west of the Snyder’s Run boat launch (marker H3) that’s called Pebble Beach since it has nice round pebble stone base. Jamescreek is also good but the bottom will be more of a slate rock. A lot of places, such as the dam area, don’t have any good places to tie to shore since the hills are so steep and the water can drop to 180 plus feet pretty quick.

We are heading to Raystown this weekend from the Pittsburgh Area. There will be about 8 of us. A couple of Bajas fountains checkmate and a couple others. If you see us stop by and say hello.

It's my home waters. I have a house there not far from the cove in from snyders. I run my 4 wheeler from my house to my boat. My family keeps there 33 Chris craft at 7 points. I will have the spectra on the lake in a few weeks. Can't wait.

Nope. I am in holiday hills. My family owns all the land from parks orchid over. The development that is off to the right at the bottom of the culdasack. I remember the old lake. My dad had like 100 acres up by the resort. Man I live that place.

Out on the lake all this week, but had to bring the little center console to get us on the water. Life is still good, but just a little slower paced!

I'm going to do it for since it's for a good cause and I'm always looking for something to do. I already paid and got the information in the mail. We should run it together since we'll be amoung the few performance boats in the run.

We are easy enough to spot....I havent even seen another Center Console w/ a T-top out here. We'll be looking for you folks....& praying for dry weather. |
Well we got the nice weather today for sure...just that little shot of rain mid-afternoon.
Very cool to see your Cat out there, my daughter took some pics of it. When the two boats left off from up past J2 in the afternoon, they sounded great. Another great week at Raystown in the books......already looking forward to next year...and having the other boat done & here with us- |

No, this little 20' Stingray CC is white (black bottom paint) and without a clip-on. We were at the cliffs on Sat till 1ish, then headed back up to J2. We were looking for you as well.
We were off to the left at Shy Beaver when the 2) Cats came by on Sunday, then again later on up by J2. I had my Lab in the boat on Sun, so we stayed out near the shore lines and way clear of all you folks. Now its back to travel/work, surgeries, etc etc, and the Nova (hopefully) goes into paint before it gets too cold, Got all winter to rig it and get ready for next year. Our hosts offered us a free weekend this fall at the house we rented up in Hesston, so we might take her up on it. Other than a bad Coil on my Excursion, and a parking ticket up at Aitch, it was a great week. And those 2) things didnt get me down....what self-respecting Ford owner doesnt carry a spare coil with them? TC- |

Kobered , I believe the first card stop will be ready by 10:00 am . There is no real set start time so people may get going at there own leisure . Our gang is meeting up at 11:00 in the No Wake out from the gas docks at the Resort . You are welcome to run with us . I guess the poker run is going to pretty much involve the entire lake with stops at Snyders and Weavers Falls . As of now I hear around 175 boats have registered . Supposed to be a beautiful day and with that many boats it promises to be a hall of famer . See you on the water ......deep

Tracy and Wil I will be heading out of Jamescreek around 10:00, hit the Trough Creek stop then blow down to Snyder’s run to meet up with the gang launching there and work my way back. The run is very informal and only cost $40 of which you get two T-Shirts, a $10 gift card to Shy Beaver and a chance to win $1000 for the high hand or $500 for the low. It’s a fund raiser get some high tech underwater search equipment to be housed at the local Fire Company. It’s a good cause since it’s so hard to find bodies in the lake. You are more than welcome to run with us. There will be me, Scott’s Dominator, John’s Eliminator, and a few Baja’s etc. Sam posted a link above. John |
That poker run sound like a lot of fun. Its a little late in the game but is there a link or something to the event?
|
Thanks for the information. Sounds like a great event and fund raiser. We will see what happens and look forward to getting out on the lake. Tracy and Wil
