Plenty of reaction time there.... Just not the right one.
He had about 1/2 a knot of motoring speed on that other guy.... Must have had a Herring prop.

AB From Windsor 07-22-2013 09:49 PM

He tried to beat the Draw Bridge coming down, big mistake.

Fenderjack 07-22-2013 10:33 PM

...and be expensive. The scary thing is that these types of people breed. :poopoo:

Still, I am glad there seems to be nobody hurt.

Why is it when I see "sail boats" 90% of the time they are using power!

speicher lane 07-23-2013 06:47 AM

"Giver'er" attitiude + Sailboat = LMFAO moment for powerboaters

ratman 07-23-2013 09:21 AM

was that stecz piloting that beauty? he should have punched it for that extra burst of speed lol

glassdave 07-23-2013 09:39 AM

not one but two idiots in sail boats trying to beat that bridge lol.

Sydwayz 07-23-2013 09:44 AM

It very well could have been the bridge operator's fault. Usually, you can't stop and reverse the process, especially lowering--due to weight and momentum. If the bridge was opened for them; they proceeded forward, and then the bridge started closing--there isn't much one could have done. They do not have powerful motors, even if the first sailboat had thrown it in full reverse. The second sailboater knew his boat could avoid the collision better with the rudder.

Yeah and they think they have right of way under power also
Had one cut in front of me off the Port side and said larger boat has right away but after he saw I was 42' he turned red.
Just missed each other by inches.

Funnone 07-23-2013 01:48 PM

Funny **** There.....

Back4More 07-23-2013 02:43 PM

I think the light turns red on its way down.

tomtbone1993 07-23-2013 03:44 PM

knocked off his lighting rod....poor fellow

nate 07-23-2013 04:08 PM

Seems like a win to me. With that windshield, no mast, and its own power maybe he'll be mistaken for a power-boater and get made fun of less

30ftpanther 07-23-2013 05:07 PM

That would have been crazy wild if the bridge grabbed his lighting rod like a pair of vise grips.

Scooter 07-23-2013 06:21 PM

At least now he can make it under the bridge. Kinda like holiday traffic up here, a race to be the leader.

Keith Atlanta 07-23-2013 06:41 PM

Thats the problem with sail boaters! They are always going too fast...

f_inscreenname 07-23-2013 09:46 PM

Lucky the mast snapped off and the bridge didn't push it thru the bottom of the hull or pushed the boat under.
