I am sure you guys have run into this before, I am looking to see if anyone has installed the CP Performacne Cross Over Kits on their big blocks without problems ?

I have heard horror stories about the motors running too damn cold and people having to install some type of relief valves in the system ?

I have also heard people have had to install oil temperature control valves to keep the oil as warm as necessary.

Then another guy told me he had to drill extra holes in his thermostarts ????

I do like the idea of picking up any hp at all and they do say you can pickup around 15 by eliminating the circulation pump.

Also the appearance is a little nicer.

My Thermostart housing are close to death, I have JB Welded them with some stainless steel screen and for now they are holding.

Looking at CP's Catalog there seems to be toooooo many choices ?

Does anyone have any suggestions ?

There are plenty of that style T stat housing still available on ebay. I would keep it stock unless you have made other mods that require a crossover.

The problem with crossovers IF you have efi is most efi's have a cold enrichment table (sorta like having a choke) that blends a extra percentage of fuel in until it see's motor go above 140 degrees, many guys have went to crossovers just to find that boat ran rich because it thought it was still warming up all the time while driven. If you are having boat re-programmed its not a big deal and it might allow you to run more timing than normal and get a small power increase from that, Smitty

Hey guys I appreciate your input.
My set up is pretty simple, gil aluminum exhaust, dual feed holly carbs 650 cfm, with electric fuel pumps, no computer system, motors are 502 gm truck crate motors with automotive camshafts. When i put the motors in I left the standard camshafts in just in case I had a warranty problem.
My intention was to install two new camshafts down the road, but the boat runs so damn good I just left it alone.

I am with Griff. Leave it stock. They are easy enough to find. There are a bunch of after market places like Sierra that probably make them.
