UPDATE - Norfolk VA to Columbus OH - which route to take
 

Traveling with a buddy to pick up a "new to him" boat.
Leaving from Norfolk, VA and going to Cincinnati, OH. Which route should we take?

Edit - Whoops - going to Columbus NOT Cincinnati

Looking for least amount of construction and of course shortest route.

My buddy thinks going up thru MD to to PA turnpike may be the best way. I am not so sure - do you think 64 might be better?

My wife lives up in the Pittsburgh area and we travel there from Northern VA all the time... we take 66 to 81 to Turnpike... You can also cut up and around the (DC) Beltway but there is a ton of traffic up that way... I would take 95 up to 17 or Rt. 234, but over to i66 west, and pickup 81 north...

I think 64 would be your best. We use to travel to Norfolk to visit family and that is the route we would take but not for sure about construction right now. I would think pulling this would be better but I am wrong a lot... lol

I live just north of Cincinnati and I am not sure what the construction is like on 64 but I can tell you that once you hit 75 in Lexington, Ky it is smooth sailing. I would think that would be your best bet. You won't be going through any major cities so I think traffic will be more than manageable. What part of Cincinnati are you coming to?

Taking the PA turnpike you have to go north and come back south to get to Columbus.

Looks like 64 west to 77 north to 70 west is going to be the best bet to keep on the interstate and not back track. It is orange barrel season so who knows what you might run into along the way. Good luck and be safe no matter what route you take.

Just did this with my 382. (actually my friends did) That's the way to go, except you take 79 North, not 77.

I go 64 to 77 when going to Akron from Richmond. Not a bad drive once you get over the WV mountains. Veer off and head toward Columbus and you should be fine. There's no way I'd go the PA turnpike. JMO

So what type of boat is he getting?
