Bravo 3 speed

What is the fastest that you have heard of a single engine Bravo 3 boat running? Mercury says that the hydrostatic drag tops it out at about 65 mph.
See you all at the Shootout!

SeaRay Jim has a 240 Sundeck with a 540 running over 65 MPH.

Clay Washington had a 22' Crownline with a Whippled 502 and a Bravo III. I think he was running around 70 MPH. Maybe he will chime in.

Bob Lloyd built both Jim's and Clays motors. He should know pretty close the top end of a B3.

What props were used in order to get there? Standard props or something special? Pitch and gear ratio?

I'm pretty sure Jim uses a standard prop (not sure of pitch). Not sure about Clay, that was several years ago. I had a Volvo DP, w/496 and ran around 65 with F8s.

The DPX seems to overall be faster than the B3. The props on the two are very different. We are attempting to push the B3 as much as we can, as the prop torque with a Bravo 1 makes for a crazy ride in rough waters and hard turns.

Mercruiser use to recommend Bravo III speeds up to 70 mph. Currently they backed that down to 65 mph. We just sold a 23 ft Crownline Mercruiser w / Bravo III that does 65 mph on gps and handles good. Bravo III apps do not like to be way over trimmed, trim range is limited compared to single prop app.. Aft prop can brake loose when over trimmed

We ran our 28' Batboat at 92 mph with a DPX, 600 hp and E4 props. The Rain-X race boat of 1995 (?) reportedly ran107 with 720 hp.
