How to clean stainless exhuast pipes.
I have some brown looking stains on my Corsa exhuast tips that I can't seem to clean.
I have tried: 3m Cleaner wax Aurora boat scrub (kinda got rid of some of it) Lime away Ringo Wads of cotton imprenated w/ metal cleaner (forget the brand name) Harley Davidson cleaner / detail spray None of these did anything except the boat scrub took a bit of the stain off. any ideas??? |
Try the Ring Go. I used it and it took it off of mine. That chit works great on stainless!

Only one choice; back to the polisher...
|
I always use that CLR stuff (Calcium, Lime and Rust), that I get at the hardware store. Gray plastic bottle, green label I think. I leave a soaking rag on the tips and they always come clean.
Good Luck DS |
Every time I pull out I spray the boat with vinegar and water mix out of a pump type insect/weed sprayer. I use a beach towell and it wipes the calcium spots right off. It takes a little wiping on the tips but it looks great and the boat is ready to go next time! Greg

Flitz metal polish works well on Stainless.
|
the best I have found is LimeAway....when I pull it out of the water.....the exhaust is blackened and just pour it on and wipe it off. Yes there are others........but this is the best for me
|
Duckies (sp) also works well for calcuim deposits. I just spray it on the Corsas and wipe off.

C.L.R.
It works grate I don't tilute I jest dab it on a rag and it rubs right off then hit it with a shot of Windex and they look like new.;) ;) |
On-Off bottom cleaner works awesome it is a very strong acid but it does not harm anything except your skin! It takes the rust and stains right off my exhuast tips and my trim tabs not to mention the transom looks brand new after.

CLR !!!! It foams up,,, then just wipe away !!!!!!!

soft scotch pad and polishing compound
|
I looked at the "lime away" bottle. It is actually CLR.
The stains just laugh at CLR. I haven't tried Flitz metal polish or a soft scotch pad and polishing compound, yet. Was down yesterday trying to rubb off the stains, no luck yet. It almost looks like coke or coffee color stains. Wierd, my last boat had the same MFG of pipes and they always shined. ?????????????????? Thanks for all the ideas!!!! |
I agree, CLR is the way to go. You can get it at your local Walmart.

The best stuff is called
AUTOSOL its a paste and cleans the Brown stains using a towel. It will also clean around the flanges and weld areas using a soft tooth brush. Its made in Germany they also have a web site. Mike J. |

I use`s on-off bottom cleaner it works the best
|
I use The Works Tub and Shower. Spray it on, hose it off in 30 seconds.
|
I watched the guys at Custom Marine use muratic acid (swimming pool deck cleaner), and the stains just vanished. Just don't forget to follow up with LOTS of water and a good mist of WD-40!!! Also - don't get it on anything else.
|
C-SPRAY is correct, I have a spray bottle of diluted muratic acid, keep on there no more than 30 sec after you hose the boat down in this area first, then I wipe dry, and apply silicon, I do this every 4th or 5th time out, but use the silicon everytime back in, sounds goofy but it works for me. Silicon saves my ass everytime, I spray it on everything, Good Luck:D
