The problem is, you still have to figure in the cost of machine work. If looking for a quick fix, I would buy something already running. If looking for a long term fix, have a new motor built or buy a new or reman drop in motor.

I assumed his 5.0 was a ford motor and not a 305. If that's the case he would need all new accessories.

Good luck.

Its a sbc motor.... I'm torn between having my buddy rebuild mine (chevrolet mechanic) or just buy one from my shop already running. (2005 5.0) vs my cuurent 1989 block. cost difference is about $3800!!! What would you do if funds were tight? reallllly tight?

I would choose the option of which is coming with a warranty. No warranty, choose which one you could afford to lose less money on, similar to gambling.

Check online for companies that sell long blocks . When I thought I was going to have to replace my engine , I was looking at long blocks and wishing my boat had a sbc because they were so cheap . I got some websites at home you can checkout , I'm out of town till tomorrow . I'll try to pm them to you when I get home .

Some guys have posted some decent engine sites on here for stock long blocks. Check the q&a or budget forum. I had checked the price on one of them and the complete 5.7 long lock was like 3900. Great deal and was a recommended company by members on here so likely no shady dealings.

The eagle engines is a nice 330hp 5.7 for 3199. Smokin deal and has been used and recommended on here

+1 dang southerners!

Seriously though, they are right on reman motors. I know the good machine shop in town has ready to go long blocks. Vortec heads, brass plugs, roller cam ready for your intake for 2400 + core. Bored .030 over.

If you can do it, buy a used motor and go through it. But that depends on if you have the time and location to pull a motor.

Good luck, that is a tough lesson. Had quite a few myself.

thanks everyone. Will all the different engines mentioned above just bolt into place or will modificatons need to be made to bolt it into place?

5.7 will be a direct bolt in for your 5.0. Accessories and everything
