Will flooding affect Shootout?

1 Attachment(s)
Given the recent flooding rains, current lake conditions, and the downstream dumping from Truman, is it possible that the Shootout could get cancelled or postponed due to debris on the course? Might be a good topic for Matt T. to discuss with the event organizers.

Glaize Arm near Party Cove.

CigaretteSam 08-08-2013 09:00 AM

Depends in the area they are running the Shootout in. The main areas of the lake didnt look bad as I was on a boat there yesterday, but the areas in that picture look bad, and I saw that yesterday too.

OzarkKing 08-08-2013 10:58 AM

Glaize arm doesn't have as active current as the area of the Shootout (ie - river channel flowing downstream) which is why the beaches back in the state park sometimes get shut down (standing water + goose poop = no good). I don't see it being too much an issue although wouldn't be surprised if debris claimed a prop or two with all the boats involved...there are enough spectators/floating volunteers that I don't foresee a tree sneaking onto the course. I'm going to CRon's tonight and I'll ask the ranking deckhand if they've heard anything. The show must go on!

I think jet skiers should be paid a buck for each substantial piece of debris they remove from the lake. It's a win/win. It helps clear the lake... gives them a better reputation...

Well, I dont think that any amount of debris in the lake will matter much for one boat in particular. As I understand it, Floating Redwoods and Sequoia's would not be able to stop WHITE LIGHTNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And something better to do with their time.

Griff 08-08-2013 12:40 PM

The Shootout will be fine. Most of the debris is back in the coves and will get stuck on shore when the water goes down.

keegan 08-08-2013 01:00 PM

that looks like an oil spill of sewage...not debris.

You're finally catching on.

I think the main concern would be with Truman. Unless the biblical rains continue, most of the current debris should clear out in time. However, if they have to dump Truman for the next few weeks we can get a somewhat constant flow of garbage down the Osage arm.

How is this any different than the typical "constant flow of garbage"? :party-smiley-004:

This seems to be a bit worse than average. These pics were found from Gene Stanfield on facebook.

I am 5 miles from Truman dam, Truman is only up 4 feet at this time, most of the big stuff was washed out in the spring when it was 12+ feet high.

Yep, Park Place condo's I believe. I think it's just a bit past the state park.

tomtbone1993 08-08-2013 02:34 PM

please reroute extra water to Texas...we can put it to good use....you guys can keep the trash...

314joey 08-08-2013 02:53 PM

That part of the main channel gets heavily traveled and all that traffic will clean it out fairly quickly, it should be fine unless it gets tons of rain the two or three days before the event, then I'd be a little careful.

Could move it to Table Rock. The Hillbillies would go nuts with all the hardware down there. The fastest thing on that lake right now is a beaver with an unusually large tail. :stooges:

Good to hear. Wasn't sure how far West the heavy rains were.

36Tango 08-08-2013 03:35 PM

It will all be just fine by Shootout time. Can't wait!

That area always seems to collect every stick and log in the lake when they open up the flood gates it doesn't make it around the point and they have a mess... It's happened a couple of times in the last few years that I can remember...

Must be a pain to get that bay cleaned out if there are issues with it self cleaning from the current.

It is, this is up in the Grand Glaize arm past Party Cove. A buddy has a condo and they usually have quite a bit of debris that have to be removed from their docks... The main channel typically is pretty clear but they've received over 17" of rain since last Friday...

Are you bringing your madcap antics and zany humor to the Shootout this year?

Yeah man...I will be there with a buddy (Keegan). But I will be a boat-less looser walking around drunk (and possibly naked) taking Poser Pics in front of boats I could never afford, and stalking Travis to get his autograph....:bunnydance:

No boat? Do you squat when you pee? :greenchainsaw:

Are you scared of the waves? The trash? The trashy waves? The wavy trash? :grinser010:

As usual, my boat is in 17 different pieces in no less than 3 different states....FML. Maybe the "WL Booster Club" would be willing to loan me some cash so I can complete this phase of the build? In exchange I would take you all for rides in a boat that exceed 105MPH....:evilb:

Whose boat are you going to borrow to fulfill that offer? :party-smiley-004:

I have no doubt that Travis would throw you a ski rope for the weekend. Think.... Shootout... Catalina style! :party-smiley-048:

How is the lake looking with the debris and flooding at this point.

Knot 4 Me 08-13-2013 12:53 PM

Buddy texted me Saturday saying he ran between the dam and Franky and Louie's and there was nary a twig. Hopefully it is the same the rest the way up to Ron's.

Did some Shootout testing between the dam and the 4mm on Sunday morning. Some little stuff here and there, but nothing of significance.
