Any boat, and I mean ANY, that have a "sundeck" above the engine' or 's, will have a smaller cockpit area. For "large" cockpits it needs to be an engine "cover" and jump seats at the back. (next to the engine cover, side to side. ) Sort of takes away the "performance" design mentality but gives you more open useable space. There is NO perfect design. Everything is a compromise. My '33' Avanti has less cockpit space then the 26' Infinity. YOu want looks? speed? Comfort? Performance? Rough riding capability? you need to buy one for pretty much for each desire. Formulas have a nice layout, but need some ponies to get them going. Advantage design with the 4 bolsters and bench on the back would be my best choice, but you are going over 30'. Under 30' you have less choices. YOu are talking more of a "run about" or family boat, at best a "performance cuddy", then performance, and back in 94, I was in the same predicament. I had to have room. I had kids, friends and speed was not the primary issue. Things do change in time. My 26' had most what I wanted, but in the later years was too small and slow. My 27' Formula had more what I wanted but was still slow for my venues. The Avanti is great for 3 or 4, But the kids went away too. lol.

If closed bow and large cockpit are the two main concerns I'd be looking at outboard boats instead of sterndrive.

I don't think I have ever seen a larger cockpit in a 30' or less boat than the Baja 280. Atleast not one with a closed bow, and the 280 has a good size cuddy as well. Engines are super tight behind the seat so it gives as much space as you can. The only thing bigger is the 320 or 33 outlaw.

I have had 9 on mine and there was plenty of room. 4 aldults easy on the bench 2 behind the bolsters, 2 in the bolsters and one drunk bouncing around.

If you want the roomiest performance boat look at the new center console offerings. Outboards of course but tons of room
