Oh crap, another boat casualty.

Running in some snotty lake erie water yesterday and did a couple hard landing's and broke a k-plane right off the transom. Since it was through bolted, it took some transom with it. That might be the end of my season. At least my pump kept up with it until I got it out of the water. I now need k-plane transom brackets for 280's. Amazingly, the Bennet cylinders survived.

Hey Formula I had a Chitty weekend too I was entertaining some guests this weekend so we went to Kelleys, My friend had his cabin cruiser out and went with us.
He insisted that we dock at Portside since he knew the owner, so they put us on the outside wall  I tied my boat with my stern facing my buddies stern so that waves would not break over my rear deck. I came back a few hours later and they had moved my boat closer to his to fit more boats(so close our outdrives were hitting:mad: When I pulled my boat out of the water this morning I had a bent prop and chunks missing from my drives    I was so fuc#ing pissed. I guess I should have went to the Casino:rolleyes:

BTW were you @ The Casino saturday afternoon?

formula31 08-04-2002 04:16 PM

I was at the Casino all afternoon. Boat is fast red noisy cruiser Rogue 2800, long beak, and I was the fat old bald man sitting at the ouside bar. Had some exciting water yesterday at times. They lost 2 boats and one sailboater yesterday.

Bummer about your props and drives.

formula....I saw yer boat as I was getting on the Island Rover to go to PIB I was going to come over and say HI when I got back, but when I came back your boat was not there, Oh well I guess I will see ya next time.
Sorry to hear about your boat...there were some big waves out there yesterday I almost stuffed my bow from running my K-Planes too deep:eek:

formula31 08-04-2002 04:32 PM

Too hot to work on it today. I may just do a temp fix to get me through the rest of the season and do it right this winter. I have to see how badly I damaged the wood and how wet it is. I dont want to leave that water in there, I think that will just make it worse. :(

I think someone called them Frankentabs. I shoud have made the bracket bigger. I misjudged the amount of force they see at the hinge. I had 2-7/16" bolts through and large fender washers on the inside. It pulled the washers right through the inside of the transom about an inch and bent the bolts like they were butter.

Sorry for both you guys...:(
Thrillseeker: That crap with moving you're boat is amazing!!!
What are these people thinking!!!!!!!!!
Sorry i missed the BIG waves though!!!:D
Just a normal weekend here....almost got 2 Waverunners {They are fast little buggers}

Audiofn 08-04-2002 08:40 PM

Sorry to hear about your experience. When you put them back on you need to redesign the transome mount. That is WAY to small of a mount for those tabs (I guess you know that now   ). If you look how large they are on "normal" K-planes you will see what I am talking about. I hope you can fix the transome easy enough. From the looks of how you made them I would not be worried. Should only take you a couple afternoons and you will be fine, and fixed correctly!!! If you need any help I have learned a lot over the last few weeks about Glass work and would be happy to make any recommendations I can to you. Just get lots of Digital pictures and lets see what we can do. Since you got the boat out fast the wood will dry out in a couple of days.

Jon

Thanks Jon, I think that corner of the transom must be bad because of the way the wood compressed on the inside. Ill be back from omaha friday and start on it then and taek some pictures. Unfortunatly I have to pull the stbd engine to get at it on the inside. Oh well, it could have been a lot worse.
