Odd Wire - need help

Was double/triple/quadruple checking everything today before we set sail for LOTO and came across this. It is on the rear of the starboard engine. Almost looks like a really small plug wire cap, but can't find where it goes. Looked on the port engine and couldn't find it (due to it being next to the wall). It traces back into a wiring harness that appears to go to the mercury mercode system/ or the ignition system. I would imagine it has been disconnected for a while and we haven't noticed any gauges acting up. Any ideas?

Stock 502's.

Side note - wires could probably used to be changed, currently they have merc wires on them. Suggestions for quality wires in this application?

What color is it? The camera focused on the background. It looks like its tan with a blue tracer, which is usually for the warning buzzer, so on the engine it would be a water temp switch or oil pressure switch.

Yes it is a yellow/tan with a blue tracer. Hmmm now that I know what it is, time to find out where it goes. Assuming either of those two, oil pressure would have sensor in the block - correct? Water temp would have a sensor in?

I'm not familiar with the 502 mpi locations. Best guess would be oil pressure switch is either down by the oil filter adapter by the pan or top of the block, rear of the intake manifold and water temp switch is up on the front of the intake manifold somewhere.

I'll be out on working on it later today and I'll check those spots out. Thanks for your help.
