Lake of the Ozarks Noise??

Planning to make the trip for the shootout, (last minute), but was concerned about the WP with the noise limits? Does anybody know with a single 525efi with 5" tips, will they bother us? Was thinking about some turn downs if needed, but running out of time.

Perlmudder 08-19-2013 11:33 AM

I have not been there, but i would imagine with the hardware this weekend, you will not be very loud compared to some of the others.

Orthobam 08-19-2013 11:35 AM

No noise tickets this week.

We might take off our mufflers.

Just for curiousity what is your source for this statement? I know you can get away with being a lot louder on Shoot Out Week but in the past that does not give you a free pass to make all the noise you want to.

KCHOTBOAT 08-19-2013 12:20 PM

I was always to and from the shootout you are fine. Go bar hoping at night and that may be different.

Von Bongo 08-19-2013 12:23 PM

Your chance is about the same as all the other Gazells in the herd. Chances are unless you are up at 5am making hot laps in front of Porta Cima you will be OK, but you need to know that an unmuffled 525 won't be legal if you get tested.

Personall I wouldn't worry about it, just don't GIVE them a reason, no sitting on the sunpad while underway..yadda..yadda..

On Thursday through Sunday this week you're probably more likely to get struck by lightning.....

I think the rule has been for the week if you are REGISTERED for the event you get a pass while testing. The law actually states "participating in a sanctioned event" and the event runs Saturday and Sunday.

Take that for what it is worth. Give them a reason and I am sure someone can get a ticket this week, keep it on the downlow and not make 6,000 RPM runs all over the lake and they probably have better things to keep an eye on this week.

+1. You pull out of Franky and Louie's at 11:00 PM at night you best be sober with an unmuffled 525 'cause they will light you up Shootout weekend or not.

Someone at a shop that works on my boat. I wouldn't take it as law but this someone has been around a while and told me we should take the mufflers off because they don't enforce the noise issues this week(end).

Unless you are doing something stupid or drawing attention, I think you are fine.

Now watch me get a noise ticket.:eekdrop:

Agree

Griff 08-19-2013 10:19 PM

The WP has plenty of other stuff to worry about on Shootout weekend. A single 525EFI should not stand out as being extremely loud.

CigaretteSam 08-19-2013 10:25 PM

Is White Lightning running silencers? I remember talk about it being very loud....unless he did something to quiet it down.

pstorti 08-19-2013 11:04 PM

call the cops and ask them

ICDEDPPL 08-19-2013 11:50 PM

A single 525 EFI is on top of the cops list for noise pollution.. Id stay home for sure!!
:bong:

Plowtownmissile 08-20-2013 06:47 AM

I've actually seen Water Patrol pull over boats in the no wake/spectator area and check boats for loud exhaust. There was a thread about it happening at the 2010 Shootout on MWBP.

That said, I don't think a single 525 boat will get their attention for noise and they do tend to be more lenient on shootout week.

That boat is old enough to go by a lower set of standards but I still don't think it'd pass the db levels of the easier test.

I agree with you, historically it was expanded to include the day before and the day after sanctioned events at LOTO. Typically water safety, BWI, are usually higher on there radar screen than noise this weekend. It might be advisable to register for the Shootout early on line. Travel safe, it will be a very busy weekend on the LOTO Doc J

Knot 4 Me 08-20-2013 07:06 AM

Again, during the day you will be fine. Leave a bar at night and you have just given them a reason to come say hello to you and hey, while we're here can you please blow into this tube. As long as you are sober, they may or may not give you a pass on the noise.

Doc, just curious, but the WP wouldn't be able to check someone's Shootout registration status if they pulled someone over, right? Without proof either way, seems like a driver could tell them that whether they were registered or not.

fountain4play 08-20-2013 12:11 PM

For the most part the last few years the WP hasn't been stopping too many boats for noise. There was a time when they would get you after the Shootout was done for the day when visiting the local on the water establishments... If your registered for the Shootout they almost always look the other way but if you give them any reason to stop you they will check everything. I wish I could just pull my mufflers I miss the noise on weekends like this but being EFI it would have to be remapped...

BadReputation 08-20-2013 02:49 PM

I have never been messed with on LOTO for noise, besides once leaving party cove, basically just an excuse to see if I was sober. Last year shootout weekend I passed two WP CC Donzi's, I was running about 100, and my boat is LOUD, they didn't even look. A single 525 will seem very tame to them this particular weekend.

rvtransport 08-20-2013 03:05 PM

One on my favorite things on shootout weekend is to listen to all the boats run up and down the lake. It just sets the mood for the run! I have never been in 1 place with that many power boats in my life and if there is a better place I want to know where!! Can you tell I am ready to head south LOL! Cant wait. Its music to my ears.

Orthobam 08-22-2013 03:35 PM

I take back what I said. They are writing noise tickets. Unbelievable.

bajaholic 08-22-2013 04:24 PM

Has that been confirmed? Or are you taking Darrs word for it?

David H 08-22-2013 10:02 PM

Ok, now I am nervous. I don't think my boat is too loud but, I don't know what to compair it to. Would twin 525's be too loud???

Just stop in at Midas on the way down. Or clamp on some good old cherry bombs. LOL.

Why be nervous? Just pay the ticket if you get one. It's not a moving violation it's just a revenue generator. I am sure if you get one it will be the cheapest part of the weekend compared to fuel, liquor, accommodations, etc....

speicher lane 08-23-2013 06:35 AM

A revenue generator - no kidding! The organizers (and the town I guess) work how many hours to put together, promote the event and build upon the success of the years prior. The draw of the shootout brings how many millions to the area in revenues and then there is the WP to put a sour stain on the atmosphere with a Decibel meter.

When an ego driven WP officer pulls out the DB meter and has the ticket half written... well it's as enjoyable as a wet fart.

When you have how many thousands of people showing up for a shootout event - writing tickets for a boat running the lake over the day is not building a good relations with the public...I could see stepping up pressure on the 0 tolerance for DUI could be appropriate on a crowded waterway but the loud ticket is really an excuse to pat their partner on the @ss for handing out a ticket on a 525 or whatever.

LOTO isn't drawing the crowd and the related monies for a blowboat regetta - it's all about screaming HP!

36Tango 08-23-2013 07:15 AM

For several hours yesterday, the rumble on the lake was awesome! Big horsepower everywhere you looked, and unbelievable paint/graphics/tow rigs/etc.

I am sure that there will be a few tickets written but there is nothing like Shootout week at Lake of the Ozarks! Just about time for the poker runs to let loose!

Thanks to everybody that takes the time and spends the money to come to town for the Shootout.
