Mystic is too big for the challenge run let alone the logistics to feed turbines for 750 mile in the ocean....Bermuda Challenge is apparently limited to 40'

fountain4play 08-25-2013 04:39 PM

Great looking pass, it was on rails...Congrats. ..My Way.

I think that would be a challenge more suited to Bobthebuilder...

I saw them run once. 180 or something. Don't know if they made any other passes.

Naawwh,, he will take it to some Northern province called kanadeeeiiyy or something. LOL.. The Predator is to big for the NY/ Berm run.
I love the big speed numbers, but it makes me sick to see a toon is faster then my boat. :( I got to do some upgrades.. Thinking I just strap this ( https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=1&theater ) on and use the 525's for anchors.

I doubt the mastic hull would stay together if it it rough

It was good to see so many old standing records drop but 224 was nothing short of wild.

.. a new possible first is having the shootout coverage in an O.R.

Your 29 looked sweet running Saturday!

186 on first pass. And 174 on the second one.

The mystic power boat combined with Whispering Turbines power was a perfect combination to make this dream a reality!! Congratulations to Bill and Ken!!

Interview with Bill and Ken, both say that the boat still has more in it...

Heard them say Bill had to hold some rudder towards the end and that slowed them down a little. You could see some steering corrections being made just before the finish line.. Still, very impressive run!! Congrats to the My Way team!!

Only way that boat could get any faster is ditch the props, point those turbines out the back, and light off some AFTERBURNERS...

Or move the radar another mile down river and give them more room to spool up! :-)

glassdave 08-26-2013 08:49 AM

thats amazing congrats to all involved

Isnt the prop driven water speed world record like 220 or something like that? The one that Phenom was going after set by Villwock in an Unlimited? This should have no prob besting that.

Why do 261 mph drag boats get lost in all these conversations ??

Prop driven drag boats are running 270 mph in a 1/4 mile. However, no one is doing poker runs with a drag boat :D

224 in a boat that can run in all conditions and participate in poker runs is just amazing!

What's the HP to Weight ratio look like between a Top Fuel Hydro and My Way?

tbirdusa 08-26-2013 10:53 AM

In years past there was always chatter of the boat onboard GPS vs. radar gun readings. Seems that My Way mentioned they had a reading of 223 mph on their GPS in 2011 and the radar had them at 209 mph.

Was there chatter around the docks on how accurate the gun was this year? Did anyone hear rumbling of GPS numbers from onboard compared to the radar? I spent the day boating from the 35 to the 55 and it was hoot to have a few come blasting past us burning off fuel throughout the day. The Scream Machine was just a wicked noise going past me.

mjryan 08-26-2013 12:50 PM

Being there in person and pulling the RacePak data from the boat, the onboard GPS was identical to the new radar gun setup. Excellent job by organizers on getting this issue ironed out.

1fastformula 08-26-2013 12:57 PM

I would agree 100% on the new radar system is very close. They actually use two radars, one picks you up at half track and one at the finish line. They take the highest reading from either gun. Also they have a 3rd back up gun if one goes down. I took the MY WAY 224 mph run thats on YOU TUBE from the cliff where all the media and radar folks are staged. From the racers I know we talked after each of there runs and radar speed to there GPS speed was only tenths off.

Pretty awesome weekend and couldn't have gone much better!!

but poker runs are not sport.

texaschopper 08-26-2013 03:24 PM

Is that the fastest speed an offshore boat has been verified as ever traveling? Shootout, race course, kilo, anything?

kidturbo 08-26-2013 03:45 PM

Properly calibrated K-band radar shot head on is pretty much dead nuts against any onboard GPS speeds in my book. Last fall we made a dozen top speed passes, boat to boat testing K-band and LIDAR. Two onboard GPS units tracked within 0.2 of each other, and always within 0.5 of the radar gun when doing head on fly by passes. Some off angle passes varied up to 10mph.

Laser proved to be junk on the water, even using reflective tape, just wouldn't get valid locks.

So I'd agree that two gun setup and taking the highest value is the fairest measurement method possible for such events today.

Correct the top fuel drag boats are running faster but only for maybe a second or two. They are unable to complete a two way average over whatever sustained distance is required by the UIM for a world record speed. Its scary flippin fast but in the clip it looks like its on rails.

It's eerie how tame that run looks on video.
