Gordo, what are some rough minimum dimensions of open water that are needed for a reasonable course?

And, what locations along the lake were you considering/prefering. Is there a safe location that would just be too inconvienient to get to?

we started looking around the area in front of Shooters due to accessability for race boats AND spectators, the number of businesses wanting to participate, dock space, ramps, crane and marina availability, dry pit area, fuel truck area, accessability for big boats on trailers, and a host of other logistic considerations. Other areas of the lake were considered but other problems arose for various reasons. Indeed, even other lakes in Missouri were considered for the event, butnothing would work for an offshore race. I was, however, asked if I would be interested in putting on a Formula one outboard race, a mouseboat race, or just about any other race that didn't require such a large course and safety cushions.
