I worry less about heat & warping & more about welding your gearset together, unless you plan to totally disassemble. Have to be careful b/c you are grounded to the lower itself so all the energy is passing thru the entire lower.
I have welded many skegs and # 6 Skegs Keep the ground path close to the weld are and keep the circuit small so as not to travel into the unit or even through the boat to electronics if still on boat , always a good idea to disconnect. Weld small and keep cool as others have said. Step the repair for larger damage. Jim |
