What's the best and worst places for pigs? I've had bad experiences in IL and Florida. The Bahamas? I saw they were trying to pass a boaters rights act in Ohio, which is encouraging, but I'm not holding my breath for the police state to roll back, ever.

Worst place I lived for cops was Virginia, they taxed your car every year and cops were like Nazis, Smitty

I live in the mountains of western NC in a small town called Cashiers, at about 3500'. The area is filled with high end 2nd homes for FL and GA residence, in the summer the climate is typically 10 degrees cooler here than it is off the mountain. I can be on the SC lakes in 40 mins...we typically boat in SC May, June, Sept and Oct and boat on Lake Glenville here in the mountains in July and August when its too hot in SC.

We are just 10 hrs from the FL Gulf. We try to get down 3 or 4 times a year when its too cold to boat here...absolutely love it down there(usually go to Bradenton/Sarasota). And we are 11 hours from Western NY where we go snowmobiling. If any of you southern guys have never been snowmobiling you have to try it. Absolutely amazing....I live in NC and own 4 of them...so much fun!!! We usually get about 4-5 snowfalls here in Cashiers that yield enough snow to bust out the sleds here...and the TN/NC line gets hammered with snow all winter long, so we load the sleds and go up there too.

I love FL and think about moving there all the time, but I don't know if I could handle being 20 hours away from the sled trails....

Missouri has personnel property tax on cars and trucks too.................plus as a nice add on they even charge your boat, isn't that nice.....................none of the crap down here thank god.

After 35 years of Pennsylvania winters, I've had enough. Although I LOVE boating on Chesapeake Bay, we have decided to build in coastal NC near New Bern/Oriental. Summers are not much warmer (perhaps a bit more humid), but the winters are 20 degrees milder. To me, there's a huge difference between 20 degrees and 40 degrees.

Boating-wise, the Neuse River connects to the Intracoastal Waterway, which means we can escape north in the summer or south in the winter if we wish. From our (freshwater) dock, it's only 35 miles to the ocean in Morehead City. The area is growing pretty rapidly, so there are more and more waterfront places to visit.

Hope we made the right call; the new house is halfway built!

FYI..dont know if you have a problem with radon gas's where you are building you may want to look into it before you put the cap on the crawl areas.a sheet of moisture barrier and 3'' of concrete is all it takes so you wont get sick from it.. looks like a nice area..good luck on your move..

Most states have either a Personal Property Tax on vehicles; or an Excise Tax on license plates/vehicle registration to include boats in some cases..
Certain counties in Virginia have no Personal Property Taxes on boats, and for some silly reason, an exponential amount of boats are "garaged" on paper in those counties.

I live IN the Caribbean and spend other boating weekends on the lakes and seas around Charlotte or any number of race sites. Boating is year round, Diving is year round, Fishing is year round. ...and when we get "Rock Fever", we head to Colorado for skiing, Charlotte for autoracing, DC for work, etc....you get the drift.
