How do u get a boat off the trailer in the shop?
What's the best way, or ways? So the trailer could be painted and the boat not left in the water.
|
I took mine off the trailer with a bunch of boat stands and a few large floor jacks, it was an all day time time consuming pain in the azz. After that I ordered a set of Yard arm style jacks from Manning. The boat went back on the trailer in about 5 minutes.

Any good magician can do it useing levitation .

depends on the size of the boat but i do most of them with my car/truck lift,,its rated for 12k so lifting it is no problem..
|
i takes about 4 cubans per foot to lift a boat off the trailer...rm
|
Put blocks under the transom, jack the front up until the weight is on the blocks, pull the trailer out, lower front onto another block. 10 minutes.
|
We used the local Marina Yard arms for a day ( 30 pack Bud Light) and set the boat on some Styrofoam blocks till your trailer is ready again .Good luck with your project
|
everybody sez they use their lift. i betcha if he had a lift he wouldn'ta hadda ask. you have to get the bck on blocks high enough so the weight is off the rollers or bunks. sometimes you can drop fromt of trailer and block it. then raise trailer nose up. sometimes you hafta jack stern up off the trailer. get a buncha cement blocks from lowes. then pieces of wood at the top. 2x4...1x6...something. then jack up front of boat so the trailer can come forward a ways before hitting jack. pull trailer up till it is close to jack. drop boat. move jack. repeat.
|
the liberal use of high explosives will remove any boat from a trailer......

Start with the front of the trailer as low as it will go, block the back and crank the front of the trailer up. Now block the front and lower the trailer. May have to do this a few times as you slide the trailer forward to clear crossmembers-a floor jack helps get around those. |
skyhook?

My boat isn't that big in perspective (21' approx 1000lb dry), but I tied the back of mine to a large palm tree in my front yard, unhitched the front then slowly rove the trailer out from underneath. I threw a few old tyres under the back and front as I went.
Getting back on is a little trickier but I basically hooked up the winch strap, spray carpet on skids with mr sheen, then winch and back the trailer back under slowly at same time. |
Do a search, there are several posts on this in the past.

You can also go to a marina and they will pick it off and store it for you. Extra money but if you don't have the skills beatins tearing up boat

fork lift and a frame for stern for the freeze frame boat

Why not find a well and just put the boat in the water ?
|
Go to a marina and have them set it in dry stack for a couple weeks. Cost is probably less than what your time is worth to get it off and on in your garage.
|
Roller trailer? Put a snatch block on the fwd crossmember, run the winch cable through the pulley & back up to the bow eye. Winch the damn thing off quicker than running to the marina. When you have weight on the stern blocks, start moving the trailer, not the boat.
Its not a major deal.... |
Yard arm that I borrowed but man it was nerve racking the first time!!!

+1 - We did the same as Derek, it worked fine, just be careful of pinch points.

I agree to use the assistance of a marina, most have hydraulic trailers as well. You can but your boat in the water, and they can bring it to your home with a hydro trailer and block up if you are uncomfortable leaving it there.

1 block the back of the boat up off the trailer, use cinder blocks or wood.
2 block the front of the boat up off the trailer , use cinder blocks or wood. 3 remove the tires off the trailer, drop trailer down, put the axles on 4 wheel dollies. 4 get 2 or 3 6x6x10' from a lumber yard. 5 slid the 6x6's between the trailer and the boat. 6block the 6x6' end with cinder blocks. 7 remove the cinder blocks from step 2. 8. drag the trailer out. 9. it works done it many times |
