525sc upgrades???

Looking to get some more power out of the motors with reliability in the mix. Had the lower end done over the summer. new cam rods block etc. Still got the bravo xr's. So I may be limited. Suggestions??? (Intercoolers, bigger blower w dual carb set up)

Did you keep the comp ratio stock at 7.5:1??? If so, you can easily change to smaller top pullies and bump the boost up to 7# or more, that is if you can find some smaller pullies.
Switching to a 250 blower will also add some HP and you could run about 7# of boost. You can still run the single Dominator carb.

Did you change/upgrade the cams?????

Gary864 10-24-2013 05:29 PM

Becareful of the drives.

apache88 10-24-2013 06:02 PM

Compression ratio is the same. Upgraded to comp hydr roller. Is the bottom end pretty much maxed out... all upper end stuff??

Any suggestions for drives as well??

Griff 10-24-2013 06:12 PM

The XR drive will be fine as long as you treat it decent. I had almost 300hrs on my Imco upper and stock Bravo lower behind my hopped up 525SC making around 575 hp and it was still going strong.

The bottom end is plenty strong enough for 650hp+.

Go with bigger blowers. 420's, 8-71's, etc.

How fast is your boat now?

Gary864 10-25-2013 10:55 AM

I still say the drives will be the weak point. Cautious or not, Your not wanting to add HP to baby the throttles. JMHO. What is the weight of the boat? what size prop and how many blades. These will all add to the stress on the drives.

apache88 10-25-2013 11:04 AM

Last summer before the starboard blew up or had any work done I was running abt 75. I blew the starboard engine in may and wasnt back in the water until end of aug. I was babying it for the rest of the season....

apache88 10-25-2013 11:09 AM

I was thinking the same... maybe should upgrade the drives first then look for hp??? I sit around 10,000 lbs with 4 blade 26p bravos

WARPARTY36 10-25-2013 11:39 AM

Which boat do you have? I had a 1997 36' with 525 SC's.

apache88 10-25-2013 11:57 AM

Thats the boat.

Hopper 10-26-2013 09:26 AM

if you crank the boost up to 7 psi prolly gonna take out head gaskets!!!! bigger blowers sure.... if you have a stock bottom end... don't think it will last :party-smiley-004:

MILD THUNDER 10-26-2013 09:42 AM

My 525SC was just fine at almost 8# of boost for 275hrs and was still going strong when I sold the boat. The engine had 475hrs+ on it with a top refresh and cam and 350hrs.
