Retail price on the 7 marine, 557 motor, with rigging is $90,000 each.......
The 7 marine motor might be fit for CC boats but it is not a performance outboard. We need a modern day 2.5
rumors are that merc took their 150 four stroke engine http://www.mercurymarine.com/engines...urstrokes/150/ and put a supercharger on it off of the Verado and this was then mated to a 2.5 mid section. ive heard you cannot purchase a new powerhead from mercury so it is hard for a person or company to copy this idea as they have to buy a complete 150 engine and then start marrying the parts to gether.
Yamaha would need to beef up their midsection for high performance use as well as the lower

Has there actually been notice of bringing this engine to the open market anytime soon?
IMO. 3 or 4 pictures of 2x experimental motors on the back of a Victory hull running in the middle east is not debuting a prospective engine to the world market. I only say debuting because it is obviously in R&D but there has been hype for a few years of a new power merc powerplant for the OB guys.... |
I can't tell by the pics which platform it's off of. However, the 150 four stroke is a single over head cam motor that is 3.0 liters in displacement. This motor is also the new motor that is the 200 coming out soon. So I would think it's very capable of producing the big numbers with a blower. The 4 cyl verados are based off the 115 platform and are also being revamped and almost ready to come out they have substantial less displacement and are dual over head can motors. It's hard to believe they have taken the 150-200 verado to 350 hp. That motor starts out a a 115.
