Boats on trailers outside without covers.

I can' t figure out why people do that. I saw a boat today. It was an older style offshore boat on a trailer. Nice lines. Twin engines. Older style bolster seats. Cool looking boat. Kinda retro. Snow on the ground. No cover. What's up with that?

professor_speed 11-09-2013 10:29 PM

It amazes me to see that too especially newer stuff. My uncle leaves the top off his cruiser all summer, just rains in the boat etc, "its a boat its made to get wet" Then wonders why all the vinyl starts cracking. I just don't get it.

When I'm in the market I look for boats like that cause you know they are f_ed up and will go for pennies on the dollar. But you also know you have to fix them.

Scagburner 11-10-2013 12:28 AM

Yea, I don’t get it either… My boat is inside unless I’m in it! I never bought into the “It’s a boat…” crap!! I guess everyone is different but boats are only to be wet on the bottom in my opinion…

HTRDLNCN 11-10-2013 01:23 AM

same people that put the boat away without flushing the engine ,cleaning the weekend gunk off and walk all over their boat in shoes... Then they wonder why our boats always look so good.

I guess it's that time of year for the "boats and shoes" thread. Ha.......I wear MY shoes in MY boat if I want too. I fail to see where any of the boats I have owned have suffered as a result. I avoid stepping on the seats, but the floor is non-skid that easily cleans up.

so come down to Miami store your boat at Grove Harbour Marina where I store mine and walk around the grease and diesel soot covered concrete for a few minutes and then walk all over your boat, you'll change your tune pretty quick. you must be lucky enough to keep your boat in a place where the ground is clean.

Point taken. Do I take my shoes off every time I enter my house? NO. Do I take them off after walking around in an excessively dirty area? YES.

There's a bunch of people that wouldn't consider leaving their boat in the water overnight !

Red Stripe 11-10-2013 03:12 PM

one of my neighbors leaves his boat uncovered outside all summer long. I don't understand it either.

My nice is definitely different than some peoples nice . Even the slightest scratch in the clear gel pizzes me of . My bike is an 08 and still looks showroom . How people treat their own stuff is their business how I choose to treat mine is my business . Guess whose will be more desired when it's time to sell .

sea6 11-10-2013 03:50 PM

I see some stuff in the classifieds and want to call and ask why they hate their boat. Especially. When you are trying too sell it and make no effort to tighten it up.

RT930turbo 11-10-2013 11:29 PM

Granted, it is a Sandy boat, but this thing looks well neglected long before sandy rolled in! I bet that custom cockpit carpet smells great!

Yes, 40 grand for this. How can I bid?:Whatever::Whatever:

c_deezy 11-11-2013 07:32 AM

I suppose they spent the money on it, they can treat it however they want. Still a shame, maybe they don't know any better...

I can't believe somebody would pay the money for that Formula then smear all that bottom paint on it tho....

low_psi 11-11-2013 01:53 PM

I put the cover on mine while indoor stored. Only time my boat is left without a cover is hen we are overnighting on it.

jjj 11-11-2013 02:03 PM

I always washed the boat after being used (in salt water) & covered it anytime it was not being used. When I sold it this spring, the first person that saw it baught it - first thing out of his mouth when he got in was "WOW, I was concerned with this being a 2000 but it is much nicer than the 5 y/o boat I just looked at. It pays to put a little effort into keeping it nice.

Z06 FAN 11-11-2013 08:42 PM

mine is in a new 3 yr old barn with a cockpit cover and a full cover on it.

Captain Nick 11-11-2013 09:04 PM

Their's a person that lives outside of my parents subdivision that has the boat uncovered outside. This is year round in Illinois! Such a shame the boat is a all teal 1960's fiberglass boat with an outboard from the same era. The sad thing is they have a pole barn big enough to store it in. I couldn't imagine what shape the boat is in if I were to have seen it up close.
