trim transducer
 

I have a trim guage acting up it is pined high and sometimes drops down. I found a section of bare wire coming out of the transducer on the drive. Could this bare wire be shorting on the drive causing my problem? I assume that the new transducer will have a length of wire on it. Were is the best place to make the splice or is there a plugin somewere? how is the wire sealed through the transome?

Its all one assembly with the wires. They go through the transom assembly and plug in on the inside. Its a pain in the a$$ to replace as most times you have to take off the drive to do it. The bare wire would cause this. You could try cleaning the wires and coating them with liquid electric tape.

Can you cut the old wires and use them to fish the new wires through? What seals the transome were the wires go through?

the ones I have replaced in the past were easier to cut the wires and solder the new unit to them. If your sender is okay and the wires are rubbing, then spread some 3m 5200 fast dry (in black, of course) over the wires and smooth the coating with a wetted fingertip. Leave the coating fairly thick and let it set up. 5200 will not peel off of the wires (be sure to clean the old wires first with alcohol).

Cheap easy fix.

I will try this. In the winter I am doing indicators for tabs and drives so I would not like to do a lot of work on this.
