MMmm lets just start over:D :D

Just use a Laser gun....(no not buck rogers!) More accurate than Radar OR gps...The only thing that throws it off, unlike radar, is a cosign effect caused from the angle of onset of the laser (beam) Usually only off by 1 mph if ever....Very rare...3 foot spread at 1000 feet....compare it to the gps and see what happens. ;)

Tank, If I shut my motors off and float in a 10 mph current, the GPS and the Radar/Laser will say I'm doing 10 mph .... I think I'm doing 0 mph ...... wasssssUp ??

The Pitot speedo will read 0 mph.

i would get back into the debate, but i used all my energy in the first thread. that is why it is disappointing it was deleted. too many people put too much effort into their view point to have it deleted. Foul and i are on the same page.

And I'm on the other ;)

thisistank 08-09-2002 07:57 PM

G$$,

You're still moving...You're not stationary...Just like the king and foul said.

But someone explain to me if you are running with the current does the gps give a false reading then? I didn't read the first thread....Sorry:(

I hear where you are coming from though G. But tech. you are moving....

cigarette1 08-09-2002 07:59 PM

But Tank ... Is my boat running 10 mph or not ???

thisistank 08-09-2002 08:01 PM

Yes, if your boat is floating at 10 MPH then it's moving 10 mph....Remember in 1 hour you will have traveled down river 10 miles;)

thisistank 08-09-2002 08:02 PM

My question is....does the current affect the gps reading??

cigarette1 08-09-2002 08:06 PM

I'm just trying to measure the speed of my boat .... you say, if I run my boat down that 10 mph current .. my GPS will tell me it runs 85 mph when I know it will only run 75 mph. My argument is a GPS cannot reliably tell you how fast your boat runs.

Can I list it for sale saying it runs 85 mph ??? Because that what the GPS will say????
