GPS speedo hook up/antenna

I plan on putting in a livorsi gps speedo. Can I use my chart plotter as the antenna for it? the gps is a lowrance elite and has a NMEA 0183 output.

only if the Livorsi can connect to the NEMA network and get the speed data from there, it won't get anything from the Garmin. Is the Lowrance elite a gps antenna or a display?

chartplotter

bobbowobbo 11-24-2013 06:58 AM

do you not have the antenna for the speedo?

Dave M 11-24-2013 07:18 AM

As long as your GPS has the NMEA output it should work. I did this with my last boat with a Garmin GPS. You might have to go into the GPS configuration screens to enable the NMEA output. It was NOT enabled by default on my Garmin.

it has a built in antenna or external?

You should be able too. I did mine to a HDS-7 and it works great.

I have done it on a few boats and it worked fine. Hook it up and have somebody pull you around the block to check results.....nothing ventured nothing gained.

Yes it will work. You just have to set your NEMA output to on and the correct speed for the speedo. I did this with a Garmmin with an intrical antena and it worked fine. I then switched to a Northstar system, it still works the is just a little more lag time for the speed to be sent to my speedo.

internal antenna on chartplotter, no antenna for GPS speedo

Page 27 says it has an NMEA 0183 output

anybody have luck Replacing the battery in a Livorsi set up. I tried soldering one in and It still doesn't pick up.Kinda hard to get a hold of Livorsy but the said I have to buy a new one.. seems a waste but that's what they said

Thats the reason I hooked mine to the Lowrance,

neversatisfied23 03-09-2014 11:18 AM

How do you wire it up? Just picked up a elite 4 and was trying to figure out where to hook up at?

PARADOX 03-09-2014 11:30 AM

I have asked a similar question some time ago (didn't get any comments back :( ) Can I use the Garrfieg Speedo GPS antenna on a Garmin GPS/chart plotter? or the Garmin antenna (internal) on the GPS or on the vessel view?

neversatisfied23 03-09-2014 01:52 PM

My unit says it has the nmea 0183 output but only two plugs on the back for transducer hook up and one for separate speed temp sensor.

I have the HDS7 and wired the Lorvisi GPS Gauge to the NMEA183. I'll see if I can find the instructions.

Yes, You can connect your GPS speedo to your Garmin GPS w/internal antenna. If I recall, the blue wire coming off the GPS harness connects to the signal wire of the speedo.

Has anyone ever hooked their Lorvisi GPS to a Garmin 3206? If so, how did you do it?
