i agree with this. as noted before, with a two boat class, it was quite boring to see 96 taking off by it's lonesome in race 1, and then having an abbreviated battle with mary mac the next two. with the equipment failure rate of the turbines, it makes for 70-80% odds of a one boat-to-no boat race (as evidenced in kw 2013). to make things more exciting, merge them with the unlimiteds that are making north of 1500 hp. see, clearwater before the mg spin out was exciting for three laps between 96 and mg. that's racing!

Here's the problem guys. Other than for a very small handful of teams this is an "owners hobby" they don't need the fans support to go racing, so a good race completes the circle for them. As a racer it is beyond worth it to be racing another boat if its close. Just being able to drive and try and control a boat on a race course (and live) at the speeds we go is pretty fulfilling. (yes it's that on the edge). This may sound crazy but 3 or 4 laps full speed next to Cintron/Qatar/CMS/Aqua is mind blowing. yes, after 150+ races it is still epic.

If you think about it most offshore races become 1-1 races after the start anyways. Stihl and WHM pair off super cats and Hulk and Talbot or GB pair off in outboards and so on. So as an Owners funded sport that objective (racing, pushing limit) is fulfilled if anther boat is there. That will change as more sponsored boats filter in and the sanctioning body develops the classes hopefully. Regardless of the technical classes we will be racing the turbine boats the same as when we were were turbines racing the pistons in years past. Qatar and Miss Geico will be playing to win all season. Should be fun to watch for you guys.

Big announcements coming soon

So do we know who is accurate about whether Team Qatar is sticking with turbines; John A or Team Qatar?

no idea...but we're now almost three months post KW and i have not heard any news on qatar switching. with the sbi season opener in less than three months, would be very interesting to see if this can be pulled off.

The Cat Extreme class should have some great racing this yr fielding one of the biggest fleets we have seen in yrs. You might even see 2-3 extremely fast Vee Bottoms in the class.
