winter prop work

I am just looking for options at this point. I want to get my prop refinished this winter, it has some small dings on the leading edge. I know bblades is a great place. There is also a guy here in AZ that has been doing props for a long time Seth Smith Props. Has anyone heard of him? Any other recommendations?
Thanks!

I believe BBlades is running a winter special soon for prop repairs. I think in January or February

There is Ross out of Mississippi (I think?) I run one of their props, bought used, and I am happy with it. The guys from BBlades were in Key West last month and I had a chance to chat with them...Left a nice impression, I will use them in the future

Are the details on their site?

DAH props.

I spoke with them a was pleased.... I'm sending my props out next month. I have heard great things about them from others. I called BBlades 4-5 time last year and never got a return call. I can't afford to have that happen when they have my props.

I had BBlades do mine a few years ago. I sent them info using their website and shipped them. I told them what I hoped to achieve, my boat specs and some rpm data.
I called them a couple weeks later to check the status and they said the info I gave them was perfect and they just finished them and were shipping them out.
Everything was done exactly like I asked. I didn't want sharp leading edges since we swim off the back and have kids. I picked up 100-150rpms(was only 200rpms away from limiter when I started) and gained 2mph at WOT.

BBlades usually runs a winter prop labbing special and posts details in the Prop Forum when it starts.

mptrimshop.

I'm sorry to hear you were not able to get ahold of us . We take every phone call serious and return every call we receive if we can't take it live. Sometimes in the middle of summer we will get behind on some return calls. However, you will receive a call back and a voice mail if we do not reach you. It really bothers me when I hear that we dropped the ball on a phone call! We believe every customer is a new friend. We take pride in the fact that we are still serving customers I got to know over 20 years ago during my old Mercury Marine days.

Yes, this year we will be having a winter special in Jan. and Feb. Watch our web site for details.

www.bblades.com

As far as speed gains from Lab Finishing, it is really relative to the application and to it's current numbers and efficiency. We have had applications gain from 0-8 mph due to our processes. One thing that we have been doing for years that other shops are now trying to achieve is to Lab specific to the boat. We use our proprietary recipes as a starting point and modify the recipe from there to accomplish the desired goal of the boat owner. This could be speed specific or boat attitude and handling. Most of the time speed results are in the 2-4 mph gains. Getting results larger than that are often due to poor set up from the beginning. I typically know if we are going to have larger than normal gains. Again, it isn't always about speed, it is about reaching a desired goal.
We do work on and sell propellers for everything from trolling motors to offshore turbine race boats.
There are many propeller shops out there and a bunch of really good ones. Make sure that the folks you choose are experienced in your application. The "in your area" bass boat prop guy turned performance prop specialist might not be the guy you want working on your Fountain, Donzi or Skater.

Please let us know if we can answer any questions for you.

Brett

I have 2 sets of mirage + 25's for my boat. Now you guys have tossing the idea around about sending one set to Blades and a set to another........ See what happens..... Run them both on same day back to back

I'll wait see the winter special

How should we monitor the before and after results?

Nothing other than each other surprisingly. Very concerning but we recently realized that if the center drive is trimmed even slightly higher than the outer drives, the tie bars will pull the outer drives in and especially on turns, the props will hit each other. So after they were repaired, I took the boat out on Thanksgiving evening to make sure all was good before our fun run on Saturday. Paid very close attention to the trim indicators and then this :( Did it again, although not as bad. Can't rely on the mechanical indicators anymore so switching out to Livorsi LED. The mechanical cable indicators are not precise enough. We were still able to make the run since they weren't badly damaged but then blew a transmission lol. It's always something. Props are back at general propeller and getting cyborg transmissions/ livorsi indicators. Hopefully no issues from here on out

Wow.... Have you ever heard of this problem befor? There has to be way to prevent that

PremierPOWER 12-07-2013 02:31 PM

We bought the boat in 2009 and ran it dozens of times with no issues. Then we dinged all 3 props about 2 years ago slightly but thought we got tangled in some crab buoys. Thought nothing of it until recently when all 3 were tore up again. We had just gone to barnacle Phil's which is very shallow and thought we hit bottom. But later realized that when I was in the shallow water, I trimmed the center drive higher to avoid hitting the bottom and the props hit. I've tried searching it but found nothing on the forums about others having this problem with triples. But then again, there aren't a whole lot of boats out there to begin with that have triple NXT or number 6's. There were 3 Donzis with triple NXT's, 2 Nortechs with triple NXT (that I know of), couple Fountains, some 50 Nortechs with triple 6's and all the first gen Cig 50. According to Doug Valentine, it's a known problem for triples but I haven't found much. My only thought on a fix is to have very accurate trim indicators and possibly go smaller diameter on the center prop. These props cost too much money to be having them tore up like this.

ICDEDPPL 12-07-2013 02:54 PM

Wow I`m crying just thinking about those props being tore up, and doing it twice! :faint2:
They did an amazing job fixing them thats for sure!

wow so that explains the blown trans trend!.. i would run a smaller diameter and bigger pitch prop on the center drive..that really sucks!

+1 for Brett at BBlades. I sent off my props last spring to be labbed for my 2000 formula fastech asking for him to get me closer to the rev limiter on my 500 EFIs to try to pick up some top end. The props came back ($850 to lab both props) and I ran them in the spring. I picked up a little speed, but still running same RPMs so I know there is some more that could be done.

I contacted Brett and he agreed to re-do them and try to get me some more RPMs at no additional charge (only shipping to/from). This is a very good customer service in my opinion.

Thanks Brett, I cant wait to try the re-worked props this spring!
