Baldwin fuel filter. Any info?

Hello all.

I have an old Baldwin fuel filter/water separator and I'm wondering if it's good for usage in a 650 hp, big block, application.

This is a late 70's / early 80's unit and it looks to be a high quality filter assembly.

It has 3/8 pipe thread in/out ports and a replaceable element (not sure if the elements are still avalable)

Anyhow, does anyone remember these and is it still relavent?

I don't know anything about that filter, but I run the Wix 33405 Filter, with head that has 1/2NPT ports. You can get into that setup filter and head for under 50 bucks. Same filter assemblies that will cost you over 80 bucks from the boat part people, or 35 bucks from the truck part people. Funny how the price is marked up so much more because its from the boat part guys.

Don't know much about that particular unit but I have heard and read that 3/8" ports for 650hp is on the smaller side of acceptable. Most people would suggest the 1/2" ports for adequate volume. However that looks like a nice piece. Good luck!

You can always try it. Worse case scenario it leans out and burns pistons or some valves from inadequate flow. Or get a proven marine high performance filter/water separator and go boating.

Have you tried calling Baldwin for flow data on that model?
