keep it or not?

Ok, asking for opinions here. Should I keep this boat and repaint with some sort of new theme, possibly repower it? It's a great boat, just dated and has a 7.4L. What would be a ballpark $ wise if I went the repainting route?

or....Should I just take a bath on selling it and look for something more updated?

Thoughts, comments, paint theme ideas??

Fred,

The interior is in pretty good shape and I don't mind the colors too bad. I think I would confine the work to the exterior. The color is in the gelcoat. The red strip on the deck has turned to magenta over the years, and teal on the sides could stand to regain some depth as well.

It is in very good condition for it's age (1990) which THE major reason I purchased it a few years ago. Somehow I just think some sort of change is in order....like I don't have enough projects:rolleyes:

How about doing what TooOld and some others have done and just repaint the stripes that are there? Of course that was TooOlds first aproach and like all good projects is went WAY beyond that    The prices I got for a repaint in my area were 150-200 a foot   I am doing it myself and it will still be over 1000 bucks in materials

If you are happy with the boat, by all means keep it. To update the graphics, the most cost effective way is to get vinyl graphics designed to incorporate your present paint. That way you can change the look later down the road if you feel like it. As far as power, if it is reliable, I'd leave it alone until it pukes, then upgrade. There is a thread somewhere on the board of a Scarab that had vinyl designed for it, and you wouldn't think it was the same boat.

If you want to make the interior look a bit more modern, take the dash panal off, remove the gauges, and paint it white. That's what has been done to my boat and it looks 10 years newer if I am parked next to the same year boat. It's am 87 Baja 240 Sport by the way.

Thanks for the feedback guys. All something to ponder.

listen to waterfoul!
I think he is right,if you remove dash and paint + new white face gauges then it will be perfect!

Hey I remember when you had to pay to get a black dash.
It was the Competition Black Dash option. I can't remember the cost but it was definitely an upcharge.

All in with new dash and gauges, upholstery work, and vinyl graphics 5-10k will go a very long way.

I like the dash panel idea. It would certainly be a rather economical way to give a more updated look to the helm. I am drawing a blank on the exterior though, short of a complete repaint.
