Best Freshwater Boating Lake In Florida?

I know that there are a lot of great saltwater boating locations in Florida. But I want to get opinions on the best freshwater lake / resort area for those of us with smaller performance boats. I have a Donzi 22 Classic. If I were to bring the boat South over the winter, what is the best freshwater boating lake in Florida?

I was just in winter haven by what is now Lego land (used to be syprus gardens). They have a bunch of lakes all connected by channels. I was wondering what boating is like there.

Lake George N to Jacksonville on the St Johns.

Great places to stop and no speed limits for most of it.

Thanks Cash Bar. Looks like a really nice run. I never noticed how the chain links together.

You can actually start in lake Monroe just north of Orlando and hit the river all the way to Jacksonville. There are no wake zones(manatee zones). But the ride is nice if you have awhile and there are places to stop and grab a bite at. Other than that long run there are hundreds of smaller lakes all over the state. Lake Dora, lake Alfred, Windermere chain of lakes are somewhat large but no places to go on them just to name a few.

Thanks guys. This is very interesting. Looking for a way to break up the winter here in Ohio and this may be it. Went online and found a nice house to rent (VRBO) right on the St. Johns River near Palatka. The plan is starting to come together. Any other advice?

Only that palatka is a small town with nothing much to do. Just spent a week there for work.

Good to know. What is the best resort town on the St. Johns River?

Could you explain that a little more please? Where do you anchor your boat to go to the spring?

Thanks!!
