When my customers ask questions, I answer them. Best practice is to communicate so they don't ask the questions in the first place, it's not a hard concept...just basic business if you want more of it.

that's why i went there in mid November, too see if anythings gotten done. i was told some story about been gone hunting and that he would get on it and call me with what he found. that has been a month now. i try not to be a pest and by the time my shop closes he is closed too. and when the employee? sarcastically asks whats the hurry are you going boating tomorrow? im done being nice.

edit: brian41(below) is right, wait until the facts are in, maybe the other party will chime in.

Just read this thread from one end to the other. The arguments at this point don't matter as much as you need to go get your motors now while the worst it can be is 400.Try to bargain down ,but he has you by the short hairs ...whoever it was that said just take the cops and get your stuff needs to Google up maritime lien. Make the best deal you can and leave with YOUR parts tomorrow...My opinion

turbo2256b 12-14-2013 05:25 PM

Go get your stuff before some of it ends up in somebody elses engine. Nothing like ending up with a couple different pistons rods or crank.

Personally I wouldn't have left without my motors, no shot he would have been able to shout me out the door while he still had my property. Sorry the world just doesn't work that way. Storage should never be charged before work is completed unless its agreed upon because you are dropping it off earlier then needed, and shouldn't start being charged till you have had ample time to pick up upon completion. If I had to take my motors with force then that is the way it would have went down. **** my boat has sat at the marina since August and I used there ramp every weekend till end of September. I offered to pay for ramp fees and they said no. Now we have been completing project after project, so that is why its there, but never charged me storage, and always had my boat ready to be taken out for the weekend. I pay a labor rate of $75 to my guy.

motor 12-14-2013 05:53 PM

4 hours labor is what some have estimated. What if their shop rate is 100 per hour. Try to bargain and go get your 540's. Leave with them

Yes it is like rewarding bad behavior BUT once you get them back (Your Parts and only your parts) then when you make his name public The $400,00 he made from you will cost him hundreds of thousands $$$ in lost business from people like us, with his lack of self control,

Because of his location I think some of us "think" we know who the OP is talking about. If it is him then he hardly ever posts but is a VERY, VERY respected builder by me and most of the good guys in the business. That is why I asked the questions I did.By the OP avoiding answering those questions it makes it even more apparent that we might be right. If that is the case I am sure that there is MORE to this story than the 1 side we got here. I had this same thing done to me on OSO a few years ago over a transom repair that the customer was just way out of line on his expectations and came on here to voice his frustration but I shut him down as soon as it was brought to my attention. In that case all the OSO members read between the lines and he went away very quickly. Had I not defended myself I am sure it would have been a feeding frenzy...."sue him"....."wouldn't go there again".... "thanks for the heads up" BS that we see all the time on OSO.

NOT ALL CUSTOMER ARE GOOD HONEST PEOPLE...I have at least 3 on this site that are not allowed in my shop. I recently had to file a PPO, criminal charges and a law suit for monies owed against 1 of them after 2 years of promises on a large amount of $$$. I won without going to court but now I have to live with him as a neighbor and an ex-customer that does everything he can to discredit me when he was and continues to be the problem.

I am not saying the OP is lying just that I don't feel we have all the facts.....yet

motor 12-15-2013 06:33 AM

The one thing most shops don't want to hear is "I'm in no hurry"...Most shops don't want your crap taking up space ..Shops want to hear "do it"
But I still say, go get your stuff
