sean stinson 08-11-2002 12:41 AM

As fast as the truck will pull it.:D  ;) :p

Steve 1 08-11-2002 01:03 AM

Maybe it's just me but the Boat looks like a Skater from the front !:p :p

satisfaction69 08-11-2002 02:11 AM

Hey who's new boat is it, I see it's sitting next to the new Virgin SC, Like bodyshot said pleasure or race version and what class will it race?

Steve 1: not to be rude or knock anybodies knoledge but you can tell a big differancs between MTI and Skaters looking at them from the front like that. The sponson design between the 2 are very characteristic, I'll let you figure it out. orry man:o

Gotta love Rare Breed :)
That boat is a work of art

My casual glance I saw Tunnel/Wing Sponson Joint, Inside Sponson Chine, Tunnel/Wing –Ramp-Angle of attack Or Compaction Ratio whatever term you like! They ALL looked like a Bit /Lot of Skater influence to me! Now some small changes in the Entry Like the Stem knees? Who knows? Not Questioning that ! And by the way who designed it??

And feel free to point out some really Major differences in that front view, I would like to see that!
:) :D

satisfaction69 08-11-2002 04:48 PM

Steve 1: hey man just bustin your balls a little if it's OK,sorry man. but I'vs been able to tell by the way the MTI's have a like chiseled front/nose from the tip of the sponson around the outside and the entrance of the tunnel area, The Skaters have free'er flowing lines on thier 40 and 46 cats. To me kinda loike comparing a new Ford Mustang 2002 (chiseled looking) to a Pontiac Ram Air Trans Am 2002 ( slick looking). his os also just looking at it from that type of pic from above, everybody can tell them apart from the side profiles,I hope.
:) :)

skyking6942 11-17-2002 01:16 PM

That is a Pocker run version of the 38, Skater is a cat and so are MTI and thats all they have in common!!!!!!

Steve 1 11-17-2002 02:02 PM

==============================================

Really! Then kindly point out some Major differences. Like in Deadrise, Steps and Tunnel comparisons between the two .

T2x 11-17-2002 05:34 PM

Let's see.........Who's the guy who stretched a 40' skater to make the 42' and 46' Victorys?

I wonder......................... if you took a 36 Skater and quartered it and spread the quarters out............if something REALLY close to an MTI wouldn't ensue?

There are very few true cat designers in the world........ subtract Hledin, Linder, Buzzi, Curtis, and whomever designs those westcoast things........ at that point the list gets very short indeed....

Get the popcorn and a case of coronas, its gonna get good!! tripps

ShipWrecked 11-17-2002 10:12 PM

T2X and Steve1, EXACTLY!
Anyone who can't see the MTI is a TOTAL CopyCat is an amature at best!
Steve1 seems to be looking beyond the rubrail and T2X obviously knows the facts.
Has ANYONE actually designed a boat on their own in the last 10 years?

tachyon 11-18-2002 09:36 AM

I also agree with T2X, Steve1 and Shipwrecked!

What are thoughts on Mike Peters cat designs?

Dredgeking 11-18-2002 09:39 AM

the steps look different on the MTI vs the skater. how much effect does the different shaped steps have? i'm guessing that step placement is more critical than step shape.

MSGANGWAY 11-18-2002 10:14 AM

HEY T2X
YOU DON'T MEAN TO SAY THAT THERE IS COPYING IN THE MARINE BUSINESS. I 'VE BEEN TOLD THAT SPLASHING IS A FORM OF FLATTERY. I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT'S NOT TRUE, IT ONLY MAKES THE ORIGINAL DESIGNER WONDER IF ANYBODY KNOWS HOW TO ACTUALLY MAKE SOMETHING FROM SCRATCH(WOOD PLUG) NOT JUST SPLASH SOMEONE'S DESIGN CAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE THE SKILLS TO MAKE SOMETHING THAT'S REALLY THEIR'S. BASICALLY THEY ARE NOT INEPT (SMART) ENOUGH TO TAKE THAT STEP, I THINK IT'S CALLED FEAR OF FAILURE.

Gotta agree with you MNFAST!

Rare Breed was at a poker run we did in Sturgeon Bay, WI. That thing is absolutely beautiful. Randy Scism was there as well and was very courteous, freindly, and welcomed all questions.

I don't know about the lineage of MTI vs. Skater, but from what I saw there's no question they are a good company that produces quality boats.

Regarding splashing, are patents not applicable in these cases? All products have the potential for copying, but patenting protects the originator to some degree.

critter3gitter 11-19-2002 04:25 PM

still can't see a difference. check the tunnels. really want to see the differences get a tape measure and do some checking. as far as wood plugs there are pictures of them.

ShipWrecked 11-19-2002 06:25 PM

The industry professionals know who did what and who knows how.
It is so easy (if the money is available) to take a successful boat, make a few minor changes (that may, or may not affect performance), and make something different. Take that and throw an expensive paint job on it and you will have something that the general public deems a killer boat.
What I can't figure out is, how come NOBODY makes there copies look different? They all (Spectre, MTI, Motion, etc) look so simular to the Skater! WHY IS THIS? If I was in the boat business, I would be embarassed to build something that looks like the others!

T2x 11-19-2002 06:32 PM

Hint.................. Beware of straight lines mixed with compound curves on the same boat.....sure indication of a (ahem) mixture of design(er)s....................... If it looks like parts of the same boat were designed by different civilizations...............one Romanesque and the other Gothic...it's not because the Romans sacked Gaul......rather that a "newbie" sacked an original.

Eltros forever!

This boat is now in our shop being painted as we speak If its ok with Randy we will post some pics.......................

Dredgeking 11-19-2002 07:47 PM

T2x, could you please tell us who the original and current (successful) cat desingers are and what their creations were? I know hledins are associated with skater and many have copied skater. who else has made a successful original cat design?

critter3gitter 11-19-2002 08:08 PM

dredgeking, micheal peters(tancara)to name one. randy took skater, tancara, and victory team uae rescources to come up with the design for marine technology. check out the uim on the web and compare thier current styles against tommy bahama and peir 57 then compare that to skaters

ShipWrecked 11-19-2002 09:13 PM

SUCCESSFUL CAT DESIGNERS?

The only "OTHER" popular cat design, in my opinion, is the SHADOW/ChrisCat. Anything else was/is a wannabe.
There is Cougar, good boat for it's day. Then there is the Peters' designs (Maelstrom, Apache, CUV, etc) but seems to be Hit & Miss designs that run ONLY on pure power (which most anything will run if it has enough power) See picture.
